Practice 1: Find how to rephrase the underlined expression. (Using some other words
without changing the meaning).

“I’ve been on a diet for 3 months and I’m exercising regularly, but the fat around my abdomen
has been hard to eliminate. All my friends advised me to get a liposuction, and after
considering all the pros and cons, I think I´ll pass. I don’t want to risk my health and become one
of those who are obsessed with looking perfect.”

“I’m at my wits’ end with my skin. I have tried all kinds of cream I found in cosmetic catalogues,
on the Web, even at the supermarket. But nothing has really solved my problem. I have
horrible wrinkles around my eyes and the sun damage makes me look so old. I think it is time
to do something dramatic, a chemical peel and a face-lift could make me beautiful again. The
chemical peel sounds really practical, a piece of cake. It would be done in a couple of hours.
The problem is my busy agenda, I have a lot of things to do and a face-lift takes time to recover.”
