NOTE Solutions either orally or in writing may be followed, modified or rejected by the owner, engineer or contractor since
they, and not Master Builders Solutions, are responsible for carrying out procedures appropriate to a specific
application.
1. SUBSTRATE PREPARATION:
1.1. Prior to starting preparation, close the area to be prepared to all traffic and other trades.
1.2. The preferred methods of substrate preparation are; captive blasting using fine shot or
surface grinding. Acid etching is not recommended.
1.3. If any part of the floor is contaminated by oil, grease or fat, the contamination shall be
removed before other forms of preparation are undertaken.
1.4. Prepare the concrete substrate using the chosen method, removing all weak or friable
laitance and concrete. The finished surface should have the texture of fine to medium
grade sandpaper.
1.5. Surface defects such as shrinkage cracks, blow holes, minor honeycombing, minor
damage to joint arrises etc. shall be filled with MasterTop 2200 thixotropic two
component epoxy surface filler or as per the Master Builders Solutions Method
Statement for Thin Section Epoxy Repairs.
1.6. When the floor preparation is complete, vacuum the area to remove all dust and debris.
2. APPLICATION PROCEDURES:
2.1. Before starting application of the coating, ensure that all materials and tools are on hand
to allow completion of the work, the floor is dry and dust free.
2.2. Ensure that the mixing equipment is adequate, with a backup mixer available in case of
a break down.
2.3. A slow speed (300-600rpm) heavy-duty electric drill or hand-held mixer fitted with a
Collomix DLX Mixing head or similar.
2.4. Several clean large volume mixing buckets.
2.5. Security of the power supply should be verified.
2.6. MasterTop 1205 can be applied by a medium pile roller or suitable paint brush.
2.7. Do not start the application if the substrate and air temperatures are less than 12°C.
Ideally the temperatures should be in the range of 18-30°C.
2.8. Do not apply when the relative humidity is greater than 90%, or if the dew point is
reached.
2.9. Do not apply in direct sunlight.
2.10. Do not expose to chemical spillage or place in direct contact with water for the first 36
hours after application.
2.11. During hot weather it is preferable to apply MasterTop 1205 in the late afternoon or
early evening, when the temperature is falling, if the temperature of the building is not
controlled.

3. MATERIAL APPLICATION:
3.1. MasterTop 1205 can be applied by a medium pile roller or suitable paint brush.
4. SMOOTH FINISH:
4.1. Providing the substrate is mechanically prepared and is good quality dense
concrete no prime coat is required.
4.2. Pour the entire contents of the colour pack into the base (PTA) and then mix the
components together using a slow speed (300 - 600rpm) hand held mixer fitted with a
Collomix DLX mixing head or similar.
4.3. Mix for no less than 1 minute, before pouring this into a clean large size mixing bucket
(20 L) and then adding the MasterTop 1205 reactor (PTB) whilst continuing to mix until
a uniform colour is obtained, free of streaks or lumps of unmixed filler (minimum 2
minutes).
4.4. Apply the first coat of MasterTop 1205 to the suitably prepared substrate at minimum
rate of
0.2 L/m² depending on the surface porosity and absorption. Allow it to become tack-free
before over coating. Allow a minimum of 6 hours at 20°C before overcoating with
subsequent coats.
4.5. Inspect the surface for defects such as blow holes, pin holes etc. and fill as required
using
MasterTop 2200.
4.6. Mix the MasterTop 1205 as above in item 3.2. and apply a second coat at a coverage
rate of 0.2 L/m² ensuring the 1st coat is completely and evenly covered. Apply the
second coat of MasterTop 1205 at right angles to the first coat. Further coats can be
applied if required.
4.7. Allow to cure for 24 hours before allowing access to traffic. Full chemical cure at 7 days
(Refer to TDS).

ASTM E 162 Surface Flammability
of "MasterTop 1205"
ACCREDITATION To ISO/IEC 17025 for a defined Scope of Testing by the International Accreditation Service
SPECIFICATIONS OF ORDER
Determine surface flammability in accordance with ASTM E 162-13, as per BASF CC UAE Purchase Order No.
4917040449 and Exova Warringtonfire North America Quotation No. 14-002-307,391dated July 7, 2014.
Solvent free high build two component epoxy floor coating, identified as "MasterTop 1205".
SAMPLE PREPARATION
The material was received in the proper size and number, as designated by the test standard. Prior to
testing, the samples were conditioned at a temperature of 23 ± 3°C and a relative humidity of 50 ± 5%.

COMMENTS
There are no current, specific Federal Railroad Administration requirements cited for floor coating
materials when tested for surface flammability (ASTM E 162 test procedure). Therefore, the criterion
cited in this report are for general requirements and are listed for reference purposes only.
Note: This is an electronic copy of the report. Signatures are on file with the original report.
Note: This report and service are covered under Exova Canada Inc. Standard Terms and Conditions of Contract which
may be found on the Exova website (www.exova.com), or by calling 1-866-263-9268.
Exova
ASTM E 162-13
Surface Flammability of Materials Using a Radiant Energy Source.
As specified, four specimens, 6 x 18 inches in size, are pre-dried for 24 hours at 60°C. Section 10.1 of
ASTM E 162-13 states to then condition the specimens to "equilibrium (constant weight)" but does not
specify a definition or procedure with respect to establishing the "constant weight". Therefore, prior to
testing, the specimens are then conditioned for a minimum period of 24 hours at 50 ± 5% relative humidity
and 23 ± 3°C.
Each specimen is mounted into a holder and inclined at 30° from the vertical in front of a 12 x 18 inch
gas-fired radiant panel. The orientation of the specimen is such that ignition is forced near its upper edge
by a pilot flame, and the flame front progresses downwards.
A factor derived from the rate of progress of the flame-front and the rate of heat liberation by the material
under test is calculated as follows and then reported after rounding the average of the tests to the
nearest multiple of 5:
Is = Fs·Q
Transit authorities generally specify a maximum Is acceptance criterion of 35 for general applications,
with no flaming running or dripping allowed.
