INTRODUCTION

 Imouse Provides an inexpensive & convenient way to

monitor physical environments.
environments

 It integrates the context aware capability of wsn (wireless

sensor networks) with the surveillance system.

 Imouse system detects and analyze the unusual events in

the environment by using static & mobile wireless sensors.

Why the iMouse ?
TRADITIONAL SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM

 Dump video –taping

 Record both usual & unusual events

 Require
R i hhuge computation
i & man power to analyze
l
massive visual data

 WSN surveillance system provides no in-depth

information

 No mobility for the sensors 3

STRUCTURE

IMOUSE ARCHITECTURE

 STATIC SENSORS

 MOBILE SENSORS

 EXTERNAL SERVER

STATIC SENSOR
 wsn to monitor
i theh environment
i & report unusuall events

 Comprised
C i d of,f
1) A sensing board (Collects data like light, temp….)
2) A mote t (To
(T communicate
i t withith other
th sensors )
 Location of sensor can be established using any
localization schemes like GPS

 When the SENSORY INPUT > PRESET THRESHOLD,

an event is reported.

 Sensors can combine inputs to define new event

MOBILE SENSOR

 Can move to event location & take snapshots

 Exchange message with other sensors

 Report data to the server

 Comprised
i d of,
f
1) STARGATE, The Microprocessor
2) DATA COLECTOR [MOTE]
3) WEB CAM

IMPLEMENTATION

 Uses light sensor on lego car to navigate mobile sensor

 We use a 6X6 grid like sensing field,2 mobile&17 static

sensor

 The threshold sensory input is set as 800 Watts

 Three factors affecting the mobile sensor’s dispatch time

 the time to cross one grid unit (26cm) = 2.5 sec
 time for a 90° turn = 2.2 sec
 time to take the snapshots & to report the results = 4s

USER INTERFACE

 Software support for imouse

 Can be divided to six major areas

1. CONFIGURE AREA
2. SYSTEM COMMAND AREA
3. SENSOR STATUS AREA
4. ACTION CONTROL AREA
5. MONITOR AREA
6. LOG AREA

ADVANTAGES
IMOUSE

 On-line & real-time monitoring

 Effective
Eff ti use off mobile
bil sensors

 Video-taping
p g on-demand

 Large coverage area

 Ad-hoc network connectivity

 Modular & scalable

FUTURE & CONCLUSION
 The weakness of traditional surveillance systems can be
greatly improved because only critical context information
is retrieved and proactively sent to users.

 Localization schemes can be integrated to guide mobile

sensors instead of using color tapes

 The coordination among mobile sensors, especially when

th are on-the-road,
they th d can be
b exploited.
l it d

 How to utilize mobile sensors to improve the network

topology deserves further investigation.
