Growing up in a village where clan-based conflicts rampanted and leaving out school for drug addictions

is ordinary i always loved the education. nearly stepping in to drop out from the school my mother
informed me to prepare my suitcase for a journey to my uncle who lived in a big city far away from my
village right/three months after my dad's death when she noticed my behavioural change and suspected
that i smoke secretly which was the reality.I became addicted to cigarettes. my father was the only
person who supporting our family financially and after his death this responsibility fall my mother and
my older brother's shoulders as he left the school to work full hours and help to pay off extra bills. My
mother's low-paying job was only enough to pay our rent and put food on the table,so i have always
known she couldn't help me pay for the secondary school and she told me to live with my uncle who
helped me to continue my education. My family has endured it was three days before a match between
two football teams was expected to take place when my older brother caught me buying cigarettes and
then took me infront of my mother with the cigarettes on his hand.the one of the two teams was my my
favorite club that i madly supported Hilaaac and their biggest rivals Gashaan for the last match of the
tournement,i was so excited to watch that game and i couldn't wait forthe kick off but the mess i have
made turned everthing into other side.

My mother...........immediately from the village as i was crying the fact that iam leaving my family and
friends which was really hard for me to accept.also, missing out my team's final match and worrying
wether they will win or lose have saddened my journey.my faith and believe that i see myself in the
future as a young educated man and the fact that iam the only person from my family who is about to
attend secondary school encouraged me to be more adventurous to higher education. As smoker i have
really found it hard first to stop that habit but i realized improvement with effective commitment is
needed to quit smoking which i successfully did.stopping to smoke, moving to a new bigger city where i
knew nobody and being seperated from my loved ones all made me feel alone and anxious but then i
accepted the harships the life throws my way and i learnt to persist even when i confronted
circumstances beyond my control and that made me the person iam today.I was able to adapt the new
enviromet, communicate and make new friends to proceed my adventure.after all of that experience I
found myself trying to advice and guide my village junior students who are thinking to leave the
education for drug addictions.I take time with them to make sure they understand the importance of
knowledge and that they can have bright future which can lead bigger change to their community and
the world.

Economics is one o f the most valuable and evolving subjects around the globe and i see a purporseful
vocation, yet what i loved most is its fusion of making different choices with a philantropic heart. My
country's low economic growth and my community's high level of unemployment that caused extreme
poverty to the region have encouraged me to persue this course.......Studying at A level in secondary
school with an excellent grade increased my enthusiasm and passion for the subject as i enjoyed the
globalisation concept and how nations use protectionism as a way of preventing industries from
collapsing

Outside of my acedemic life i enjoy the challenge that leadership brings and i find that enviromental
preservation as importantant issue and when i observed my community's threat towards plants and
animal i decided a project of planting two thousand trees in the school compound. As Enviromental Club
(ECO) member i organised a campaign titled"don't make future generations suffer" to protect the
enviroment and address local community the negative impact of cutting down trees which led me later
to become ECO club chairman in which i developed teamwork, cooperation, management and leadership
skills. In addition, throughout my work with school Charity and Community Services Committee i was able
to be part of volunteering team who raised a fund to buy animal fodder for local pastoralists who
suffered servere drought so that they can feed their livestock.I have been involved in "wear a mask and
save lives" campaign in the school compound as a Science club member to warn students and notify
Somali health ministry precautionary guidelines when the covid-19 pandemic was its highest peak.

Recieving this scholarship will help me and boost to achieve my future career goals as economist which i
believe if i do not complete my college degree i could never have the opportunity to achieve my career
goals. this will not only be beneficial to me,but also to my community as iam hoping to give back to
those with finincial crisis,so that they don't have same finincial burdens that i have grown up

my involvement in both my school and community prove that iam a student committed to developing a
promising future.and as a member of my generation,i believe been active responsiple student who
achieved exceptional academic grade on all subjects and participated in many extracarricular programs
which benefited the school as well as the community would qualify me this scholarship

throughout my past experience of stopping to smoke and adapting new enviroroment with plans and
commitment i have realised what it takes to be dedicated student and although i know economics is
challenging subject, nevertheless once given the oppurtunity i know i have the motivation and capacity
to succeed in this rewarding and intellectually fulfilling scholarship
