Background of the Study


Intelligence is a reliable predictor of academic performance, but non-cognitive factors
such as motivation, emotional intelligence, creativity, and positive thinking are also
essential. Along with these, personality is now an important factor studied in relationships
with academic performance (Ciorbea I. & Pasirica F., 2013).
Personality traits reflect people's characteristic patterns of thoughts, feelings, and
behavior (Cummings, 2019), and each person has distinct personality traits that set them
apart from others.
The Five-factor Model proposed by D.W. Fiske in 1949 is the most commonly used
framework for assessing personality traits. The Big Five characteristics can be broken
down into facets to provide a more detailed study of a person's personality (Diener E. et
al., 2019).

Environmental protection means keeping the community clean and safe.
Waste management is a component of a system that also includes
generation, collection, and disposal.
Solid waste management (SWM) is regarded as one of the most critical
environmental problems in the Philippines.
According to the National Solid Waste Management Commission (NSWMC),
30,000 tons of solid garbage are produced daily in the nation, 73% of which
come from families, 26% from businesses, institutions, and industries, and 1%
from healthcare facilities (Aguinaldo, 2008).
