HOLD ON TO THE PROMISE (19/04/2020)

God promises Abraham

Genesis 15:13-16 New Living Translation (NLT)
13 Then the LORD said to Abram, “You can be sure that your descendants will be strangers in a

foreign land, where they will be oppressed as slaves for 400 years. 14 But I will punish the nation
that enslaves them, and in the end they will come away with great wealth. 15 (As for you, you
will die in peace and be buried at a ripe old age.) 16 After four generations your descendants will
return here to this land, for the sins of the Amorites do not yet warrant their destruction.”
Joseph holds on to the word of promise. Because God said it shall indeed come to pass
Genesis 50:24-25 Amplified Bible (AMP)
24 Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about to die, but God will surely take care of you and bring
you up out of this land to the land which He promised to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob [to give
you].” 25 Then Joseph made the sons of Israel (Jacob) swear [an oath], saying, “God will surely
visit you and take care of you [returning you to Canaan], and [when that happens] you shall carry
my bones up from here.”
Joseph- Demonstration of faith based on the word and promises of God
Hebrews 11:22 New Living Translation (NLT)
22 It was by faith that Joseph, when he was about to die, said confidently that the people of Israel

would leave Egypt. He even commanded them to take his bones with them when they left.
400 years later the children of Israel departed from Egypt to Canaan
Exodus 13:19 New Living Translation (NLT)
19 Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for Joseph had made the sons of Israel swear to do

this. He said, “God will certainly come to help you. When he does, you must take my bones with
you from this place.”
They kept the bones for that long holding on to the faith on the promise that surely God will
come through for them. The bones were a constant reminder that someday we will be free and
carry these with us to the promised land
We too have hope not from the bones of Moses but in the body and blood of Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 9:12 Amplified Bible (AMP)

12 He went once for all into the Holy Place [the Holy of Holies of heaven, into the presence of
God], and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, having
obtained and secured eternal redemption [that is, the salvation of all who personally believe in
Him as Savior].
We have something that reminds us of this Jesus and his coming back. The promise has been made that
Jesus will come back for us and we have the holy communion to keep reminding us of the sacrifice and
his coming back.

1 Corinthians 11:24-26 Amplified Bible (AMP)

24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is (represents) My body, which
is [offered as a sacrifice] for you. Do this in [affectionate] remembrance of Me.” 25 In the same
way, after supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant [ratified and
established] in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in [affectionate] remembrance of
Me.” 26 For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are [symbolically] proclaiming
[the fact of] the Lord’s death until He comes [again].

We have more that the talking blood of Abel, we have more than bones of Joseph serving as a reminder
of the second coming of our Lord. We have the sacrificed body and the blood of lamb killed on the cross
for the forgiveness of our sins and our salvation. Proclaiming the Lord’s death until he comes back again.

Let that be the basis of our faith, that he died for us and he is coming back for us again. Embrace it hold
on to it, regardless of persecution, suffering, sickness, troubles, weariness. surely he will come back for
us because he promised to do so

John 14:3 Good News Translation (GNT)

3 And after I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to myself, so that you
will be where I am.
