Revolutionizing Bihar's
Urban Transport: A
Case Study
Introduction

• The National Urban Transport Policy (NUTP) was launched in 2006 to provide a
framework for the development of urban transport infrastructure in India.
• The state of Bihar has been implementing various initiatives under the NUTP to
improve the transportation system in its cities.
Integrated Public
Transport System

• Bihar has taken steps towards integrating different modes of public transport such as
buses, taxis, and auto-rickshaws to provide seamless connectivity to commuters.
• This has resulted in the introduction of the 'Har Ghar Tol' initiative that aims to provide
doorstep connectivity to citizens through a network of public transport services.
Non-Motorized Transport

Bihar has also focused on promoting non-

motorized transport options such as cycling
and walking to reduce congestion on roads
and improve air quality.

This has led to the development of

dedicated cycling tracks and
pedestrian walkways in cities like
Patna and Muzaffarpur.
Bihar has implemented an Intelligent
Transport System (ITS) in Patna to
improve traffic management and
provide real-time information to
commuters.

Intelligent
This includes the installation of GPS-
Transport System enabled devices on public transport
vehicles, traffic signals, and the
development of a centralized control
center for monitoring and managing
traffic flow.
Bihar has also introduced smart
parking solutions in cities like Patna
to reduce congestion caused by
illegal parking.
Smart Parking
This includes the development of
multi-level parking facilities and the
use of technology such as sensors
and mobile apps to help drivers find
available parking spots.
