Reading 12 points

Read the blog entry by a mother of two teenagers.

Every morning when I get up, I hear pop music from my children’s rooms. At breakfast, my

daughter Alyssa is busy with her mobile phone. She always sends text messages to her friends during

breakfast. My 13-year-old son Ashley goes online to check his e-mails. After breakfast, I take the

children to school by car and they listen to the music on their iPods on the way.

When they come home from school, the children close their bedroom doors and watch films on

their computers. I want them to do their homework but they want to play with their computers and mobile

phones. Alyssa and Ashley never talk these days. That isn’t because they don’t like each other. It’s

because they chat online – even when they’re in the same house! They’ve got new friends, but they’re

not real friends. They’re online friends. My children don’t read books or magazines either because they

read stories on their electronic books. Sometimes, I just want my kids to turn off their phones,

computers, electronic books and iPods. I hate technology!

busy - ocupado the same - la misma

during - durante either - tampoco

After - después turn off - apagar

on the way - en el camino hate - odiar

want - querer even - incluso

1 Say if the sentences are true (T) or false (F). Di si las oraciones son verdaderas o falsas

1. Ashley never checks his e-mails in the morning.

2. The children usually talk to each other.

3. They don’t often chat online.

4. The children never read magazines.

5. Their mother drives them to school every day.

6. She doesn’t like technology.
