Atkins critical Support to first heavy precast lift at Hinkley Point C

21/08/2020

This week, on Tuesday, the Nuclear Island (NI) building HL1-02 heavy precast slab was successfully
lifted and positioned within the NI HL1 building. This was tricky due to last minute changes and a big
task to ensure that clearance between the precast starter bars and the in-situ bars (if they clash when
the slab is lowered this can cause last minute cutting of bars and big Non Conformance Report). The
slab weight is approximately 180 tonnes and is the first of the big lifts for the  NI HL building. We had
multiple Open Points impacting this precast including bar bending shape issues, clearance tolerances
with the in situ bars, additional embedded elements and last minute modifications and calculations on
the lifting points. This lift was successful due to the hard work and collaboration from all parties JDO,
NNB and Bylor.

From the JDO thanks should go to the Path to Dome lift team: Yorick Kimpe, Mathieu Lengagne,
Manaf Al Hashemi, Liam Flood, Karl Manning, Emily Lo, Catherine Howe, Dan Aldous.
