Provide explanations and reasons for your answer and mention the definition/theorem, rule
used to solve the Q’s:

1. A hockey team includes three centers and six wings. How many different forward lines (line = one
center plus two wings) can the coach make up from these nine players?

2. How many different subcommittees can be formed from the si members of a student council at XIM
University?

3. A license number is to consist of three digits followed by three letters in sequence. How many distinct
license numbers are possible using this scheme?

4. A mother has six cookies, two chocolate chips, three raisin, and one peanut butter. In how many ways
can she pass them out to six children so that each gets one?

5. Five cards are drawn at random from a standard deck of playing cards. How many combinations are
equally likely whether the cards are drawn in a bunch at random, or drawn one at a time at random?

6. What are the many possible ways to select 3 letters from four letters A, B, C, D (a) with sequence
consideration. (b) without sequence consideration.

7. There are 4 students to be paired. In how many ways can these students be paired if (a) each pair will be
defined as pair A or pair B? (b) Only making pairs is relevant without any pair titles?

8. A student plans to buy 2 books from a collection of 6 Math(M), 7 Science (S), and 4 Economics€ books.
How many choices are possible if:
(a) The books are to be on the same subject.
(b) The books are to be on different subjects.

9. A tasting panel is to rate 9 products. In how many different ways may first, second and third places be
assigned?

10. Suppose that in problem 9 above, it were only necessary to pick three superior products without
distinguishing between them. In how many ways can that be done?
