Provide explanations and reasons for your answer and mention the definition/theorem, rule
used to solve the Q’s:

1. There are 3 candidates for a Classical scholarship, 5 for a Mathematical scholarship, and 4 for a
National science scholarship.
(a) In how many ways these scholarships be awarded?
(b) In how many ways one of these scholarships be awarded?
What are the two fundamental principles that can be used to solve the above two questions? What is the
difference between the two princciples?

2. In how many ways three different rings can be worn in four fingers with at most one in each finger?

3. In how many ways can 6 persons stand in a queue?

4. In an examination hall there are four rows of chairs. Each row has 8 chairs one behind the other. There
are two classes sitting for the examination with 16 students in each class. It is desired that in each row all
students belonging to the same class and that no two adjacent rows are allotted to the same class. In how
many ways can these 32 students be seated?

5. How many words can be formed from the letters of the word “DAUGHTER” so that
(a) the vowels always come together. (b) the vowels never come together

6. How many four digit numbers divisible by 4 can be made with the digits 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 if the repetition of
digits is not allowed?

7. How many permutations of the letters of the word “APPLE” are there?

8. How many different words can be formed with the letters of the word “HARYANA”?
(a) How many of these begin with H and end with N?
(b) In how many of these H and N are together?

9. In how many ways can 8 MBF students be seated in a (i) row (ii) circle?

10. In how many ways can 5 persons be seated around a circular table? In how many of these arrangements
will two particular persons be next to each other?
