Agricultural Research Proposal

I. Introduction
Research is a systematic way of searching for knowledge and solving problems. In
the agricultural sector, research is being conducted to improve the efficiency and quantity of
animal and crop production. Researchers are task to identify problems of economic importance,
investigate probable solutions, make a hypothesis out of it, design an experimental set-up to test
the hypothesis, collect and analyze data, and make a conclusion and recommendation.
A multi-disciplinary research is one that combines research methods and processes
aimed at a common goal – in that sense, one might think of a research agenda that aims to
improve the performance of livestock and crop performance, tackling the fields of Animal
Science, Crop Science, Soil Science, Crop Protection, and analyzing the profitability and
acceptability of that “improvement”, thereby tackling both the fields of Agricultural
Management and Agricultural Extension.
Identifying a research problem is one of the most difficult parts of conducting
research. Thorough observations and creating new ideas are required, thus for beginners reading
recent studies or consultation with experts in the field will lighten the situation. In research, a
research problem states the specific condition that needs to be addressed, improved, or
eliminate. Sometimes, identifying a research problem is confused by addressing an industry
problem. Identifying a specific research problem leads to a more specific proposition/hypothesis
and parameters needed to be taken care of. A sample research paper is given below:

Title : LAYING PERFORMANCE AND EGG QUALITY TRAITS OF ITIK PINAS (IP)-
KAYUMANGGI (Anas platyrhynchos) UNDER INTENSIVE AND
SEMI-INTENSIVE FARMING SYSTEM
Authors: Jean Karla D. Julian1, Vanessa V. Velasco1, Jamal James D. Manlapig1
and Edgar A. Orden
Year: 2022

For the usual student researches, the proposal is in the form of a research outline. Parts of a
research outline are presented below:

1. Title of the study

2. Introduction (background and need)
2.2 Theoretical or conceptual framework
2.3 Statement of the problem
2.4 Basic Assumptions
2.5 Hypothesis
2.6 Significance/Importance of the study
2.7 Scope and limitation of the study
2.8 Definition of terms
3. Review of literature
4. Materials and Methods
4.2 Research design
4.3 Description of sources of data and sample (experimental unit)
4.4 Description of instrument to be used (treatment, housing etc.)
4.5 Data gathering procedure and organization
4.6 Statistical analysis to be applied
5. Bibliography
5.1 Literature cited

II. Objectives
At the end of the exercise, the students are expected to:
1. Understand the basic concept of research.
2. Conduct a simple survey to identify areas in their field of specialization that requires
investigations.
3. Propose a research topic according to the field of specialization.
4. Present result of the interview in the class.

III. Methodology
1. The laboratory instructor will discuss the activity.
2. Students shall have a copy of the laboratory worksheet.
3. Each student will be grouped into 3 members.
4. Students will select the area of specialization they are interested to.
5. Based on the preferred area of specializations, students will visit agencies, private farms, or
any related government institution for an interview.
6. Interview will be conducted to identify current problems in the area of specialization.
Result of the interview will be presented in the class and will be used to answer the
questions given in this laboratory activity.
7. The students shall propose a solution through experimentation based on their identified
problem.
8. The results will be written in the answer sheet and submitted.

IV. Materials
1. Laboratory worksheet.
2. Research papers.
