However, the activities of the farmers’ association could not continue for long. Soon the
campaign took the form of a concrete struggle and action, known as Hat Tola Andolan. The
main reason for this movement is that those who own the market, they collect the market fee.
This issue first led to protests by farmers’ associations against the market owners.

The practice of collection of mashul was widespread in many parts of North Bengal
including Boda-Debiganj Pachagarh. Rural people protested against the practice in various
districts of North Bengal. Hat boycott was observed in Khas Mahal area of Jalpaiguri in 1921-
22. A large number of tea estates were involved in this practice. Yet it was a little widespread
spear practice in Jalpaiguri both Khas Mahal areas and regions and other districts.

িাশুি আিায়ের প্রচিন ববািা-বিবীগঞ্জ পচাগড় সহ উত্তরবযের অযনক অংযশ্ বযাপকভাযব প্রচমিি মিি। প্রথার মবরুযে গ্রািীণ জনগন
উত্তরবযের মবমভন্ন বজিা়ে প্রমিবাি প্রকাশ্ কযর। 1921 -22 সাযি জিপাইগুমড়র খাস িহি এিাকা়ে হাট ব়েকট িষ করা মগয়েযি। চা বাগানগুমির
অযনকাংশ্ এই প্রথার সাযথ জমড়ি মিি। িবু ও এটি জিপাইগুমড় উভ়ে খাস িহি এিাকা এবং অঞ্চি এবং অনযানয বজিাগুযিাযি একটু মবস্তৃি বশ্িার
অনুশ্ীিন মিি।
