here to help you connect with other incoming students and the entire campus community. Check out our Fall Welcome

FALL WELCOME WEEK (FWW) SCHEDULE


Wednesday, August 21
7:00am–7:00pm OPENING DINING—Reisner Dining Hall
Join us for a meal(s) in Reisner Hall. Please bring your SU ID card to swipe into the dining hall. Commuters will
receive a meal ticket at FWW check-in. Families can purchase meals at the door.
8:00am–7:00pm OFFICES OPEN TO ASSIST STUDENTS AND FAMILIES WITH QUESTIONS:
• Admissions Office, 105 Old Main Building
• Financial Aid Office, 101 Old Main Building
• Student Accounts Office, 100 Old Main Building
FALL WELCOME WEEK CHECK-IN—Ceddia Union Building (CUB) Multipurpose Room (MPR) 100
All new students should pick up (FWW) materials including schedule, drawstring bag, and other important items.

VEHICLE REGISTRATION—CUB MPR 100


Students will have the opportunity to purchase parking decals at this location during move-in day. Students must
register online at parking.ship.edu before getting the decal. Please bring SU ID, driver’s license, registration card,
10:00am–7:00pm insurance information, and $75 for payment. Payment can be made by cash, check, or money order payable to SU
Student Services, Inc.
ID PHOTOS—CUB MPR 100
If not done previously, please have your photo taken for your SU ID card. You must bring a current, valid form
of photo identification. Your SU ID cannot be issued without proper identification. If you attended summer
orientation but did not receive your SU ID, please pick it up at this location.

Meet staff and other transfer students while enjoying a meal in Reisner Dining Hall. Learn about departments and
resources to assist you during your first semester at Ship. Please bring along your SU ID card for your meal plan.
Commuters will be given a meal ticket.
8:30–9:00pm COMMUTER SOCIAL—Commuter Lounge, CUB, second floor
Join fellow commuters to view the Commuter Lounge for light refreshments and a chance to win great prizes.
8:30–9:00pm HOME AWAY FROM HOME—Residence Halls (see your Residence Life staff for locations)
Meet your Residence Director (RD), Resident Assistant (RA), and members of your floor. Learn more about your
community and everything your building has to offer.
9:30–10:00pm WELCOME TO SHIP—Luhrs Performing Arts Center (LPAC)
This is your official welcome and start to your career as a Shippensburg University Raider! Catch a performance by
the SU Marching Band.
10:00–11:30pm BIG RED’S BASH—ShipRec
Start your welcome week off right! Compete in games and meet new friends with PlayFair. This is a night you won’t
want to miss, hosted by the one and only Big Red!
Thursday, August 22
7:30–8:00am WAKE UP WITH WELLNESS: RAIL TRAIL—Enter on North Prince Street by university’s main entrance
Join your new classmates for a healthy start to the day for your mind and body. Grab comfy shoes and head out on
the trail for a group run or walk. No registration required, just show up, then enjoy breakfast together.
8:00–9:45am FIRST BREAKFAST—Reisner Dining Hall
Join your new classmates for your first breakfast together. Bring all the information you need to get the most out of
your day, including your name tag and materials. Bring your SU ID if you have a meal plan. Commuters will be given
a meal ticket.

Get your mind and body ready for the day with your new classmates. No registration required!

The first day at Ship is an exciting new beginning. New people. New places. New possibilities. Join your peers as we
welcome our keynote speaker, Blake Fly, who will kick off Academic Day and the start of FWW.

A Peer Anchor (PA) is an undergraduate student of sophomore or higher standing, selected and trained to mentor
and guide new students through their First-Year Experience (FYE). Your PA will be part of your FYE seminar and a big
part of your first year! Get together with your FYE seminar classmates, and learn more about the program ahead.

sick? What is there to do off campus? Where can I vote? These questions (and more) can be answered at the
SNExpo, an interactive event where you can talk to students, faculty, and staff about the many ways the Ship
community supports you in your quest for academic success. You will attend with your Peer Anchor groups.

Guest speaker Dr. Lori Hart will give us an entertaining and realistic look at everything you will encounter in your
first year of college.

Wear white or neon bright so you will glow under the lights. Glow-in-the-dark games and the DJ will keep the first
week energy going. FWW Leaders will be on deck serving you ice cream!

As part of your official welcome to Shippensburg University, come pick up your Ship t-shirt! You will wear your shirts
during the Convocation Ceremony, which is the official kick-off to the new academic year.
8:45–9:40am CONVOCATION CEREMONY—LPAC
There will only be two times in your academic career at Shippensburg University where you will be able to assemble
with your entire class: at convocation and during commencement. Don’t miss this important opening to your
academic career, and hear from this year’s keynote speaker, Dr. Alison Dagnes, professor of political science.
9:45–10:45am ARE YOU RAIDER READY?—LPAC
Welcome to Ship’s Day of Civility! Learn our Raider values, and explore the powerful connections between
students, faculty, and staff. We welcome Dear World, a portrait project that unites people through pictures in their
distinct message-on-skin style to help us share our stories.
11:00am–5:00pm CIVILITY DAY ACTIVITIES—Various Locations
In groups, you will be led through the sessions below, including lunch with student leaders.
• Share your Story—CUB MPR
Share a story about a meaningful part of your life, and listen to the stories of others. Take part in the Dear
World portrait project, write a letter, and/or participate in a group sharing workshop. Together, we will build
pride in ourselves and in our community.
• Building a Responsible Community and Title IX Education—Memorial Auditorium
What is your role as a student and member of the Ship family? Explore how we work together to build
community within this session.
• Making Friends and Extending Kindness—CUB Galley Food Court
Students will get involved in creative ways to “give back” and help the local community.
• Developing Future Leaders—Hockey Rink (Rain Location: ShipRec)
Teams will participate in real and imaginary ground-based obstacles (either natural or constructed) that
challenge them to use their resources and work to find solutions.
• Respecting Individualization—Memorial Auditorium
Can you say that? Understand how to use your voice and respect others.
5:00–5:30pm DEAR WORLD UNVEILING—LPAC
See the stories of your peers, faculty, and staff come to life on the screen through Dear World’s portrait project.

8:30–9:30pm RAIDER RUMBLE—Seth Grove Stadium (Rain location: LPAC)
SHIP PRIDE is what we do—we’ve got spirit, how ‘bout you?! Get introduced to our fall sports teams with
performances by the SU Marching Band and the SU Cheerleaders. Grab Ship giveaways! Get ready to shake Seth
Grove Stadium with Instagram star Famous Amos! Fireworks will start at the conclusion of the Raider Rumble.
9:30pm–12:30am CARNIVAL—Recreation Complex Parking Lot (Rain location: ShipRec)
Come one, come all! Enjoy a night of rides, games, and carnival food. Yes, there is popcorn and cotton candy!
Saturday, August 24
GET OUTSIDE—Various Locations
Now that you’re familiar with campus, we are excited to share the beauty of Shippensburg and the surrounding Cumberland Valley with you!
From hiking and biking to fishing and camping, the area is home to over a dozen Pennsylvania state parks. Join us for outdoor activities as an
introduction to all that your wonderful home has to offer!
8:00am–1:00pm HIKING—Pole Steeple, Pine Grove Furnace State Park
Be led on one of the various trails in the state park. Explore natural surroundings while hiking through the forested
path. Dress appropriately for a hike, and wear proper sneakers or hiking boots. There are twelve spots for students

9:00am–5:00pm SHIPSHARE BIKE RIDE—Lehman Library
Take a ride around campus, explore downtown Shippensburg, or enjoy the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail. Bikes
can be checked out through the Lehman Library system. To use a bike, present your SU ID at the library checkout
counter. Users must sign a liability form and receive a key for the bike lock. Bikes can be checked out for up to
three hours. Upon return, the bicycle will be checked for damage. For more information, visit

9:30–10:30am WAKE UP WITH WELLNESS: YOGA—Academic Quad (Rain Location: ShipRec)
The first 100 students to show up will receive a free yoga mat! Join your classmates for a healthy start to the day
for your mind and body.

11:00am–1:00pm DISCOVER SHIPREC—ShipRec
Where can you get a basketball? Or a disc for disc golf? Where can you work out? What are intramurals? Learn the ins
and outs of Shippensburg University’s recreation center.
11:00am–3:00pm TICKET TO DOWNTOWN—Downtown Shippensburg
Explore the student-friendly businesses offering discounts and specials in beautiful downtown Shippensburg. Visit
Shippensburg Station along the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail (51 E. Fort St., Shippensburg, PA 17257) between
11:00am-3:00pm to pick up your “Ticket to Downtown.” Get your ticket stamped at participating businesses, and
you’ll be eligible for prizes.
11:00am–2:00pm DISC GOLF—Hockey Rink
Join the SU Disc Golf Club for an introduction to the nine-hole disc golf course located on campus. No experience
necessary, and all equipment will be provided!
11:00am–2:00pm SWIMMING AT FULLER LAKE—Pine Grove Furance State Park
Student can bask in the sun at the beach or take a dip in Fuller Lake. Make sure to bring a towel and cash for the

11:00am–8:00pm HAMMOCK LOUNGING—Various Residence Halls
Enjoy some leisure time outside in a hammock! Hammocks are located outside of Harley, Naugle, and Seavers
residence halls.
12:30–1:00pm FOOTBALL FAN APPRECIATION EVENT—Seth Grove Stadium
Meet this year’s Red Raiders! Take pictures with members of the team down at the stadium, grab a free 2019
schedule poster, and get autographs from our Ship players. Come support this year’s team!
4:00–8:00pm SHIP-O-RAMA—McLean Lawn (Rain location: ShipRec)
Enjoy live music, friends, food, and fun during Ship’s outdoor music fest. We will welcome local pizza shops to
compete for the best pizza in town. Every vote counts, so don’t miss out! Bring your swimsuit, and take a ride down
the inflatable water slide. Hear special performances by Ship’s own talented students and the Sean Spiffy Band.
4:00–7:00pm DINNER—Reisner Dining Hall

8:00–10:00pm 12TH ANNUAL FACULTY/STAFF VS. STUDENT SOCCER GAME—Robb Sports Complex
Can you kick it under the lights? Ship faculty and staff can! Report to the field before or during the game to play.
10:00pm–2:00am BREAKFAST BINGO—Reisner Dining Hall
Come on out to one of Ship’s most popular campus traditions, Breakfast Bingo! Fill up on delicious breakfast
classics like bacon, pancakes, eggs, while getting to know the people who work in administration at Ship. Enjoy
some healthier options, as well, to kick off Ship’s campus-wide wellness initiative. Play Bingo, win amazing prizes,
and have a blast with your new Shipmates! With so many prizes to give away, dozens of you will be leaving with gift
cards, Ship swag, gift baskets, or even a flat screen TV. Doors open at 9:45pm.

Tours will leave every 20 minutes.

Meet the student leaders and staff of MSA. They will share the services and events designed to assist you in
succeeding at Ship. It is their goal to help you see that Ship can and will be your home away from home if you take

6:00–7:00pm RAIDER FUN RUN/WALK 5K—Hockey Rink
Put on your walking or running shoes, and get outside with faculty, staff, and friends for a 5K. The on-campus
course is runner and walker friendly. Registration is $5 and will go toward book scholarships and the student
emergency fund. Pre-registration is not required; participants get a shirt, so bring your friends!
