As I explained in the lesson 1, we can speak the sentence but is sometimes attached at each predicate to
‘지하철 3호선을 타십시오. emphasize the intention of respect when several sentences
(Please take subway line no. 3.)’ indirectly. are connected. In this sentence, ‘내리셔서(get off)’ can
be used instead of ‘내려서(get off)’ and ‘걸으셔야(walk)’
can be used instead of ‘걸어야(walk)’.
지하철 3호선을 타십시오.
Please take subway line no. 3.

지하철 3호선을 타시면 됩니다. 안국역에서 내려서 걸어야 합니다.

안국역에서 내려서 걸으셔야 합니다.

In this sentence, it's common to use ‘가시려면’
instead of '가려면'. As a subject is the second
person, the honori�ic pre�inal ending ‘-(으)시-’
is used to respect the subject. In an imperative
ending ‘-(으)십시오’, however, ‘-(으)시-’ is
already embodied so it's not used in duplicate.
In the last sentence of the dialogue, “서대문에서
내려서 470번으로 갈아타십시오.(Please get off
at Seodaemun and transfer to bus no. 470.)”,
‘내리셔서(get off)’ can be used instead of
‘내려서(get off)’. A stem of ‘내리다(get off)’ is
combined with ‘-시-’ and connected with ‘-어서’
to form ‘내리셔서(get off)’.
Originally, it forms ‘내리시어서(get off)’ but
becomes ‘내리셔서(get off)’ as ‘시’ and
‘어’ are combined.

A stem of ‘걷다(walk)’ is combined with ‘-(으)시-’ and
connected with ‘-어야’ to form ‘걸으셔야(walk)’.
Just like ‘내리셔서(get off)’, ‘걸으시어야(walk)’ is
abbreviated to form ‘걸으셔야(walk)’.
Please make sure to remember that the honori�ic pre�inal
ending ‘-(으)시-’ is used only when a subject is the second
person and a higher ranking person than a speaker.
Also please remember that the honori�ic pre�inal ending
‘-(으)시-’ cannot be used when a subject is the �irst person even
if it seems to be used frequently.
