Working with Locos in MU
Working in MU is same as working on single loco except additional
power.
a. If a train of empty load and the locos are in MU, the rear loco can be
made dead by pressing the engine stop button in rear loco.
b. If wheel slip experienced while on run, It is required to check MU jumper
cable, some times it becomes slack on run.
c. When any trouble arises in "REAR LOCO" only bell rings or buzzer
sounds, as the case may be, in the "Rear unit" and investigates the cause
for the trouble.
d. On every train stop, the Loco pilot should go to the "Rear unit" and check
the following:
Battery charging
Crank Case Exhaust Motor working.
Brass spindle projection and satisfy himself, personally.

Splitting of Multiple Unit into diesel locos
• Before Splitting the MU Locos
Following Change to be done in the Trailing loco
L/T Switch Press and turn to Trail Press and turn the LEAD/TRIAL switch from
(MU2B) (Ensure Equalising pressure dropped to ‘0’.) TRIAL position to LEAD position.
(Ensure: Equalising Pressure at 5.2 kg/cm2, BP 5.2 Kg/cm2 and BC 5.2 Kg/cm2).
Note : Do not operate the Bail of switch while changing the Control Stand.
PROCEDURE FOR ATTACHING THE LOCO AND CHARGING THE TRAIN
FORMATION
• Release loco brakes (SA9) from leading loco & see that the loco
brake releases on leading & trailing loco.
• Drop BP from leading loco and see that the loco brakes apply on
leading and also on trailing loco. Recreate BP and see that the loco
brake releases on leading and trailing loco.

Braking of Multiple Unit in WDG4
• Un-couple all hoses between two locos. Also ensure no leakages after
uncoupling
• On Leading Loco, set the working control stand L/T Switch to LEAD
• Release hand brakes & uncouple CBC and now both locos
• Location: Remove CCB panel cover next to short hood control stand.
Move the COC from parallel position to 900 to the pipe line.(Open the
COC to close line parallel)
• Open brake cylinder equalizing and MR equalizing cut out coc s in any
one end of the dead loco for quick release of dead loco brakes.
• Note: A slight air blow will be felt at all times of the BC Eq. pipe during
such dead operation. This is normal and does not affect the
development of BC pressure.
• Apply to Auto Brake (A-9) in lead loco brake should apply in dead loco.
• Release Auto Brake (A-9), brake should release in dead loco. If brakes
are not realsed, adjust BP pressure to 5.2 kg/cm2 in lead loco

ATTACHING OF WDG4 FOR BANKING PURPOSE
• Open both angle cut out cocks of loco and formation and ensure BP charging
on Banker loco as per leading loco.
• Release loco brakes of banker loco, drop BP from leading loco and ensure BP
dropping in banker loco and application of loco brakes proportionately
• Note : Alerter in the Banker loco will work normally as in the case of leading
loco. Penalty of PCS open will occur but BP will not be disturbed
