INTRODUCTION
Modern day buildings have truly understood the
importance of going green and products like coco tiles
are the answer to incorporating reclaimed by-products to
create environment-friendly materials which have a
unique aesthetic appeal as well. A home that is well
designed has eco friendly interior design and
sustainability resources that are conserved and used
efficiently in ways that keep your cost down without
taking its toll on comfort or convenience.
COCO TILES
What is Coco Tile?
Coco tiles are woven boucle tiles made
of 65% coir and 35% sisal. Coir is a
natural material made of coconut fiber
that is extracted from the husk of
coconuts. Sisal is a natural fiber derived
from the agave plant.
 Coco tiles are available in various finishes and colours.
 The different looks are obtained by using either the
inside or the outside of the shells and by making use of
polishing techniques and paint effects.
 The coco tiles form a stylish, richly textured, warm and
elegant cladding.
 Coco tiles are lightweight.
How are coco tiles made?
Coco tiles are handmade by cutting
coconut shells into small, perfectly
sized squares and then bonding the
squares into larger tiles.
Advantages of coconut tiles?
Coco Tiles reduce landfill waste and indoor air
pollution.
 The reclaimed shells used are a rapidly renewable
resource left after the edible portion of the coconut is
harvested.
 These are made from natural materials that would
otherwise be discarded.
 Only water based, low emission glues, lacquers and paints
are used in manufacturing coco tiles.
 In addition to coconut shell tiles, the company also
produces tiles from mahogany tree bark which is a waste
product from the timber industry.
 This innovative beneficiation of former waste products into
desirable décor items has been highly successful in creating
employment and generating income for hundreds of people.
 Coco tiles are hardwearing and able to withstand extreme
moisture.
Conditioning: Coco Tiles should be conditioned for a
minimum of 72 hours before installation. This will allow
tiles to adjust to the ambient local temperature and
humidity level.

Installation: Coco Tiles can be installed directly over

framing members. All coco tiles may be put up with a
combination of panel adhesive and nails.
Places of application:
 The coco tiles have an interesting texture and a warm,
natural but sophisticated look, making them ideal for
accenting a feature wall.
 Ceilings.
 Coco tiles can be crafted into furniture designs such as
cabinet doors, table tops and chairs.
 Flooring.
