ACADEMIC PREPARATION: VIEWS IN CHOOSING CAREER PATH OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS OF

SOUTH EAST-ASIA INSTITUTE OF TRADE AND TECHNOLOGY

The choice of Career Tracks of the students has a significant role in the preparations for the Senior High
School. These career tracks are related with career preferences. The study conducted by Abarro (2016)
on the Factors Affecting Career Track and Strand Choices of Grade 9 Students in the Division of Antipolo
and Rizal, Philippines revealed that most number of Grade 9 students are inclined to take Accountancy,
Business and Accountancy (ABM) courses in Senior High School and in the college level. The result
denotes that sex, school preference, average monthly family income, occupation of the head of the
family and average scholastic ratings are influences connected to the career choices of the students.
Further, the highest educational attainment of the head of the family and important individuals are not
associated with the Career Choices. In the same manner the study of La (2009) on factors influencing the
educational and career choices of senior high school students revealed that school structure, parent’
supports, gender and grade average has substantial effect on the Vietnamese Senior high school
students’ career choice.

In congruent to these findings is the study conducted by Babagay Llacer (2021) to determine the career
choices of graduating public secondary students in Ligao City Division, Ligao City, Philippines, and the
factors affecting their career choices. The findings revealed that the secondary students are attracted in
the succeeding career choices: Tourism and Culinary Arts, Education, Business, Engineering, Science and
Technology, Medical and Health Care, Arts and Design, Communication and Information Services, and
Technical Courses. These findings provide a sufficient knowledge and supporting data on the views in
choosing career path of senior high school students which is the existing research topic of this study.
