Baby dumping refers to parents leaving a child younger than 12 months in a public or private

place with the intent of terminating care for the child. The issue of baby dumping in Malaysia
specifically among teenagers is still rampant even in 2022. This scenario keeps alarming and
increasing day by day without fail. There was a case where a baby was found in a box at the
mosque gate in Tanjong Karang, Selangor. According to statistics, 100 newborns are
abandoned each year in Malaysia. The majority of these newborns were thrown away, with
70% of them discovered deceased after being jammed into toilets, flushed down the toilet,
dumped down the drain, or burned beyond recognition. These tragic statistics have found the
same for 15 years despite all the politics and laws in place.
One of the factors that may lead to this issue is the lack of sex education. With the
knowledge, at least things could differentiate between good and bad if they are not exposed to
sex education they will be unaware of the dangers of having sex at a young age. Moreover,
there is also a common misconception among the public whereby introducing sex to children
and teenagers will only encourage them to have sex at a young age. This is a myth that should
be refused. Teens should be informed about the pregnancy and the unwanted pregnancy so
that they could think that their actions could bring a huge impact on their life.
Furthermore, one of the effects of baby dumping is the impact that facing by that particular
individual. The person will suffer mentally and emotionally, and this will lead them to feel
guilty for their entire life. Plus the individual will likely experience blood loss infection and
even injury during delivery. Another effect is on our country. First, the number of investors
who invest in our country will decrease. It is because investors will never dare to invest in a
country that has lots of social problems. Based on this scenario, the people in our country will
be affected when there’s a problem with economic growth. The unemployment rate will
increase. Hence the crime rate will also increase accordingly.
If there is a problem sure it will have a solution itself. The role of parents is also considered a
solution to overcome this issue. Parents play a high role to teach their kids to become good
and that’s why parents should openly discuss sex education with their children. Even though
this topic of sex education is still terrible in our culture; it is also important to prevent
teenagers get wrong information about sex from the wrong sources. Furthermore, parents
should also have the initiative to story the consequences of being in a relationship at an early
stage and tell them about the cons of having unwanted pregnancy so that their children could
keep in mind and be careful with their actions.
