The covid19 pandemic has been adversely affecting the health and learning of

students at universities, including the University of Languages and International

Studies, Vietnam National University (ULIS), Hanoi. To facilitate its students to
overcome this awkward situation, ULIS has adopted several practical measures
such as switching to online learning as well as reducing tuition fees to avoid the
spread of the disease and reduce the financial burden on students.
To commence with, as soon as the epidemic showed signs of spreading to the
community, ULIS swiftly switched the learning method from classroom learning
to online learning. That is, students instead of having to go to classes like before,
will now be able to stay at home and study online according to the schedule that
the school has arranged. All teachers and students need are computers and
phones with a ready connection to the Internet to implement this way of
learning. Students can choose a comfortable place to study as long as it does not
affect their studies and ensure their own safety against the epidemic. In addition,
as students do not have to go to class to learn directly, the costs of studying are
also significantly reduced to help students' families overcome financial
difficulties. Specifically, the institution has reduced tuition fees for all majors to
a reasonable level and delayed the payment deadline to help students have more
time to pay for their studies.
The above measures have really shown to be effective when they bring certain
benefits to students. Firstly, as for online learning, it not only ensures social
distancing according to the government's directive, but also ensures the safety of
students without losing the effectiveness of online learning. Moreover, this will
help prevent the disease from spreading to the community as well as ensure the
academic progress of students. In terms of reducing tuition fees, it has really
given the families of students who are in financial difficulty more time to
manage, thereby reducing the burden of tuition fees and ensuring that student
learning continues in a stable and normal manner.
Overall, by implementing safety measures during the pandemic, ULIS has
helped students ensure their academic progress without having to worry too
much about financial problems. This is a meaningful action to join hands to fight
the epidemic and return to normal life.
