Explaining Factoring Project

Factoring requires having many tools in your algebra toolbox. Listed below
are different methods for factoring and different types of polynomials to be
factored:
- factor by GCF (including factoring the GCF out before doing other
methods)
- factor by grouping
- factoring basic trinomials
- factoring trinomials where x2 has a coefficient (4x2 + 16x + 15)
- factoring differences of squares
- factoring perfect square trinomials

PROCESS
1. Find partners to make a group of 3-4 people.
2. Choose 3 topics from the list above.
3. Create a product that explains those 3 topics in your own words and
includes at least 2 example problems per topic. Also explain how to
completely factor any factorable polynomial and include 2 examples
of that process.
4. Be sure to include a general definition of what factoring is.

POSSIBLE PRODUCTS: poster, flow chart, essay, song/rap/poem,

PowerPoint presentation, picture book, your own amazing and creative
idea….
* Songs/raps will need to be performed for the class, along with paper
documentation handed in.

RESOURCES: notes, textbook, internet, friends, parents, etc. BUT don’t

just copy examples or explanations from those sources. I want your own
words, not a professional’s words (even if you cite your source).

Points: The project will go into your grade out of 50 points.

- 10 points per topic explained (6 points for the explanation, 4 points
for the examples)
- 10 points for the organization and overall presentation of the product
(this differs based on what you turn in, but will not be based on the
accuracy of the content)
