Statement of Purpose

MSc Sports Management

University of Stirling

In the business world, business management is the process of organizing, coordinating, and
engaging an organization’s actions and resources in order to accomplish its goals and
objectives. It entails managing money, marketing and other facets of running a firm in
addition to organizing the work of individuals. Making strategic decisions that impact the
organizations long-term success is another aspect of business management. Overall,
business management is an essential aspect of running a successful organization, and it is
critical to ensuring that businesses are able to operate efficiently, effectively, and profitably
over the long-term. I developed an interest in business management after completing my
intermediate due to which I chose Bachelors in Business Administration (BBA). Subjects like
principles of management interested me the most as I believed I had the right leadership
skills to pursue my career in management.
Why Choose Sports Management?
I am looking to pursue my career in MSc Sports Management at the University of Stirling as
since the completion of my undergraduate degree, I am working in a gym as Operation
officer, because of my interest performing additional duties as fitness expert and I am
looking to enhance my knowledge by joining stirling university as I have plans to start my
own fitness center at later stage of my career. With my current level of knowledge in
business administration, I now need to get an advanced degree in order to further my
career. I believe MSc Sports Management is the right fit for me. An MSc in sports
management can give me a solid foundation in the fundamental concepts and methods of
sports management that can be used in various sports-related professions, including sports
marketing, financial management, and leadership. The sports industry is increasingly global
in nature, and an MSc in Sports Management can provide me with an international
perspective on sports management. There are some modules like principles of management
in sports that interest me the most. I will lean skills that would be pertinent to my
professional career in sports management including planning and organization of a
company’s resources. I would also learn the importance of setting clear objectives,
developing action plans, and monitoring progress towards achieving the set objectives. I
would acquire the abilities of a leader, and understand the importance of building
relationships, and motivating team members to achieve common goals.

Why the University of Stirling?

After considerable research, I determined that the University of Stirling was the best choice
for my Master’s Program due to its quality of study and research. The tranquil and
picturesque campus, as well as the diverse student population, was quite appealing.
Additionally, the off-campus life in Stirling would be a great experience. The courses offered
by the University are created in collaboration with industry requirements, ensuring that the
students are equipped with the necessary skills and qualifications for success in the
workplace. The research impact in business and management is classified as world-leading,
reflecting the high quality of teaching and experienced faculty. Moreover, the faculty
members have a renowned reputation which is quite attractive. The university also boasts a
high employability and teacher satisfaction rate, as well as a world-class library, all of which
are compelling factors behind my decision to attend the University of Stirling.

Why the UK?

I have chosen the UK as my study destination due to its high quality education, safe
environment, and reasonable visa/admission process. In addition, the UK has a great
university system, with five of the top thirty cities for students based on factors such as
affordability, quality of life, and employer activity. It also allocates a large amount of money
for research in its universities, which further attracts me to this destination. Furthermore,
the UK has a multicultural environment that appeals to many students, including myself. All
in all, the UK is an ideal place to study. While the quality of education in Pakistan is not good
as compared to the UK, the former's education system in Pakistan still has no merits. Due to
a lack of funding and qualified management, universities in Pakistan often fail to keep up
with the latest developments in different fields, leading many graduates to find that their
skills are not up to the standards of the industries. As a result, many students opt to pursue
higher education abroad; UK, USA, Europe, and Australia being the most popular choices.
Nevertheless, I found that the UK was the best option for me as it does not have the same
language barrier as other European countries and offers a more accessible acceptance rate
and less tuition fees for international students.

Future Plans
With an increasing importance of sports as a marketing tool, there is a growing demand for
professionals who can create and manage effectively fitness campaigns in the fitness and
sports industry. One of my goals is to obtain a leadership position within a sports
organization or a team such as sports director, or a team president. As I have experience in
this field, after completing my bachelors, I started working at a gym that specialized and one
of top gyms in Pakistan. My post was operations officer there and I acquired useful skills
while working there including communication skills, team work, fitness techniques,
strategic-thinking and ways to solve problems. This further developed my interest in the
field of sports management and I wanted to advance and add value to my education.

Pursuing this degree will make me able to earn around 150k-200k at the start of my career
as compared to qualification from Pakistan that will enable my career start from 50k-100k.
Many multinational fitness companies prefer foreign qualified students. From petroleum
industry to sports industry, IT industry and all other multinational companies are always
looking for foreign qualified students. After this degree, I will have chance to shine between
all the candidates for any job. Additional with this degree, I see myself moving toward my
long term goal of life to start my own fitness center at national level. I believe that this
degree will be a perfect match to this industry as per my skill set. I look forward to study this
degree and prove great alumni to the Stirling university.
