Narendra Modi was born on September 17, 1950 in


Vadnagar, a town in Gujarat, India.
2. His father, Damodardas Mulchand Modi, was a tea
seller and his mother, Hiraben Modi, was a
homemaker.
3. Modi completed his higher secondary education in
Vadnagar and then earned a Bachelor's degree in
Political Science from the University of Delhi in 1978.
4. He started working for the Rashtriya Swayamsevak
Sangh (RSS) at a young age and was later appointed
as the organization’s Gujarat Unit PR Secretary.
5. In 1987, he was elected as the General Secretary of
the BJP’s Gujarat unit, and subsequently rose to
become the party’s National Secretary in 1995.
6. In 2001, Modi became Chief Minister of Gujarat
and is regarded for his economic policies that helped
shape the development of the state.
7. During his tenure as Chief Minister, he initiated
several ambitious programs that transformed Gujarat
into one of India's most prosperous states.
8. In 2002, a communal riot occurred in Gujarat
during which more than 1,000 people were killed,
mostly Muslims. Modi’s government was accused
of failing to control the violence and he faced
widespread criticism for not doing enough to prevent
it.
9. Modi was denied a visa to visit the United States in
2005 over human rights concerns related to his
government's handling of the 2002 Gujarat riots.
10. In 2013, he was chosen as the BJP’s Prime
Ministerial candidate for the 2014 general elections
in India.
11. In May 2014, Modi led the BJP to its first ever
absolute majority victory in the Indian Parliament
and was sworn in as the Prime Minister of India.
12. As Prime Minister, he introduced several
ambitious initiatives including Swachh Bharat
Abhiyan, Digital India Campaign, Make in India, and
Skill India among others.
13. He has also implemented economic reforms to
make India an attractive destination for foreign
investment as well as to promote entrepreneurship
and job creation.
14. Modi's policies have been both praised and
criticized by people in India as well as
internationally.
15. In 2019, he was re-elected as the Prime Minister
of India after the BJP won a landslide victory in the
general elections.
