Abstract
Physics is filled with equations and formulas that deal with many
important areas.1 . Section 1 is devoted to moments of inertia, while
Section 2 is devoted to linear motion - look also formulas (2) and (3).

1 MOMENTS OF INERTIA
The rotational equivalent of mass is inertia, l, which depends on how an ob-
jects mass is distributed through space. The moments of inertia for various
shapes are shown here:

1
Including, among others, angular motion, Carnot engines, fluids, forces,
moments of inertia, linear motion, thermodynamics, . . .

1
ˆ Disk rotating around its center:
1
l = mr2
2

ˆ Hollow cylinder rotating around its center: l = mr2

ˆ The kinetic energy of a rotating body, with moment of inertia, l, and

angular velocity, w:

KE = lw2 (1)

2 LINEAR MOTION
When an object at position x moves with velocity v and acceleration a,
resulting in displacement s, each of these components is related by the fol-
lowing equations:
δx xf − xi
x = = (2)
δt tf − ti
1
s = vi (tf − ti ) + a(tf − ti )2
2
vf2 − vi2 = 2as = 2a(xf − xi ) (3)
