The suspension wire is of gold or copper of 0.0125 or 0.25 mm
diameter
The deflection torque developed will be given by,
Td = NBAi. where A = ld, area of the coil
Td = Gi where G is called displacement constant and given by
NBA = NBld
Deflection of the instrument is given by θF = Gi
K . where K is the
spring constant.

Measurement of Voltage and Current

Dynamic behaviour of Galvanometers:

Displacement constant (G = NBA); Td = Gi

Inertial constant (J); Tj = J ddt 2θ
Damping Constant (D); TD = D dθ

Control Constant (K); TC = K θ
The deflection is given by Tj + TD + TC = Td and resulting to a
second order differential equation,
2
J ddt 2θ + D dθ
dt + K θ = Gi

Measurement of Voltage and Current
Dynamic behaviour of Galvanometers:
Case-I: If D 2 < 4KJ
The roots of the equation are imaginary.
It is under damped.
The meter oscillates with decreased magnitude before reaching the
final equilibrium position.
Case-II: If D 2 = 4KJ
The roots of the equation are real and equal.
It is critically damped.
The meter will not oscillate and reachs the final equilibrium position
in short time.
Case-III: If D 2 > 4KJ
The roots of the equation are real.
It is over damped.
The meter will not oscillate and reaches final position in a sluggish
manner.

Current Sensitivity is defined by deflection per unit current and is
given by Si = θiF .
Voltage Sensitivity is defined as deflection in scale divisions per
unit voltage applied (Sv ).
Megaohm Sensitivity is the resistance of the circuit so that the
deflection will be 1 scale division with 1 V applied to the circuit.
