Grammar Practice Assignment #4

If you had control of all the medical research in the world and, by concentrating
funds and efforts, could find the cure for only one disease in the next 25 years,
which disease would you select? Why?

Given the opportunity, I would choose to cure Alzheimer’s because is a progressive

disease which means that it gets worse with time, it varies on what abilities will affect
every person. Medications can help, but they will not be the cure for this disease. It is one
of the most aggressive; with time, more neurons are damaged, and more brain parts are
affected. When this disease is very advanced, the individual will require help from family
members, friends, or even professionals such as caregivers or nurses to help the patient
perform regular activities such as dressing, taking a shower, and simply keeping the
patient safe. People may develop mood, behavior, or personality changes due to the
thinking and memory challenges they are experiencing. One of the main concerns is
preventing falls, which can cause head injury, and fractures, leading to hospitalization.

Think of an important decision you have made in your life. If you had made a
different decision, what would have happened? What should you have done
differently?

One important decision I made, was coming to this country when I still needed to finish
high school, I would have preferred to stay in Venezuela and finish high school there
because I could have had more time with my family and I would have also gotten more
prepared for what was going to come when moving to this country, such as the culture,
the people, the language and how to do things properly such as financially and ethically.
If I hadn’t come here so early I would have graduated with my friends from childhood
and I would have shared all the experiences and things that students do in their last year
of high school, besides that, if I would have stayed in Venezuela, I wouldn’t have been
able to afford college there since my parents’ salary wasn’t enough to pay for my tuition
and the inflation was getting progressively worse which means that it was a matter of
time that their salary wouldn’t be even enough to live a normal life.
