Rear Axle Housing


SMCS - 3260-11; 3260-12

Remove Rear Axle Housing


start by:

a) remove rear tires and rims

b) remove rear drive shaft

Release the air pressure from the air reservoir before any lines are
disconnected.

1. Disconnect air lines (1) from the brake quick release valve.

The front support can fall from the axle housing as the axle housing is
removed. Fasten a wire (3) around the axle housing and front support in
two places to hold the front support in position on the axle housing.

2. Fasten a hoist to each side of the rear axle housing. Remove bolts (2) and nuts that hold the front
and rear supports to the frame. Remove rear axle housing (4) from the machine. The weight of the
axle housing is 2810 lb. (1269.5 kg).

Install Rear Axle Housing

Fasten a wire (1) around the axle housing and front support in two
places so the front support can not fall off the axle housing as it is
installed.

1. Fasten a hoist to each side of the axle housing. Put rear axle housing (2) in position on the machine.
Install the bolts and nuts that hold the front and rear supports to the frame. Tighten the bolts to a
torque of 345 ± 30 lb.ft. (465 ± 40 N·m).

2. Connect air lines (3) to the brake quick release valve.

end by:

a) install rear drive shaft

b) install rear tires and rims
