Fuel Pressure, Temperature and Flow (typical system)

- The system consists of 6 pressure actuated switches and 6 indicator lights, one for each fuel boost
pump.

- Fuel feed low pressure switches control the fuel low

pressure indicating lights on the overhead panel.

- The fuel feed low pressure indicating lights

. for tanks No 1 and No 2 will illuminate (output pressure drops to 5psi & extinguish at 7
psi). . for center tank will illuminate (output pressure drops to 14 psi & extinguish at 16 psi).

- Low pressure fuel from any boost pump in any tank will turn on a fuel feed low pressure light.
- Low pressure from both fuel boost pumps in the same tank (low-pressure lights & fuel
annunciator light & master caution light will illuminate).

Fuel Temperature:

- The fuel temperature indicating system allows the fuel temperature in tank No 1 to be read on the
forward overhead panel.

-temperature sensing bulb is in fuel tank.

- temperature bulb contains a resistance element (resistance is proportional to changes in temperature).

. This element controls the current which gives a read out on fuel temperature indicator.
. 28v AC bus supplied to the system.
. The temperature bulb is an armored, bayonet locking-type bulb.
. The fuel temperature bulb has a temperature range of -50 to
+300ºC.

Fuel temperature indicator:

. located on P5 panel.
. resistance ratiometer instrument (ratio of the currents through 2 coils in the
meter movement). . reads from –56 to +56ºC.

Fuel Flow Indication:

- expressed in Pounds Per Hour (PPH) or Kilograms per Hour (KGH).

- too much fuel (hot start)
- not enough fuel (hung start)
The elapsed time between the 2
-each engine has one fuel flow indicator. pulses is proportional to the mass
-Pulse Switch Flow meter flow rate.
- fuel entering passes through the flow director onto a swirl generator which gives the
fuel a rotary motion.
. ROTOR rotates at a velocity dependent on the rate of fuel flow.
. fuel flow leaving the rotor is directed through the turbine, deflecting
the turbine against the restraining spring tension, an amount proportional to the fuel flow rate, magnet
attached to the rotor induces an electrical pulse each time it passes the pulse generator fixed to the
turbine.
