Teacher IRENEO V. BATAGA Learning Area Science
Date September 19-20, 2022 Quarter First

Describe the processes that is happening in a hot spot;

I. Objectives
Relate hot spot with plate tectonics.

Inferring and Communicating. Students will appreciate the importance of the lesson and
II. Science Process apply what they have learned in their everyday life. Students will be open-minded and
Skills and Value Focus listen to the ideas of their classmates.

The learners demonstrate an understanding of the relationship among the locations of

III. Content Standard volcanoes, earthquake epicenters, and mountain ranges.

IV. Performance Demonstrate ways to ensure disaster preparedness during earthquakes, tsunamis, and
Standard volcanic eruptions.

The Learners should be able to describe the different types of plate boundaries; S9ES –Ia-

B. EXPLORE Activity 6: Drop It Like It’s ‘Hot Spot’

Guide Questons:
What can you see on the surface of the bond paper?
Let’s say that the paper is the earth’s crust; what do you think is represented by the water
in the test tube?
What geologic feature do you think will be formed at the surface of the crust?
Which of the features at the surface of the crust, will be the oldest? The youngest? Label
this on your paper.
Which of the features will be the most active? The least active? Label these on your paper.
C. EXPLAIN What are hotspots?
How about Mantle Plumes?
D. ELABORATE The teacher will show video clips showing what is happening in a HOT SPOT and is
possible due to the convection current that is taking place under it.
Using power point presentation, the teacher will show the different pictures of how
geological features formed because of the hot spot.
E. EVALUATION TRUE – FALSE
1. A hot spot is an area in the mantle from which materials rise as a thermal plume.
2. High heat and pressure at the base of the lithosphere facilitates the melting of the
rock.
3. The melted rocks, called magna, rises through cracks and erupts to form
volcanoes.
4. The tectonic plate moves over the stationary hot spot, volcanoes are rafted away
and new ones are formed.
5. The chain of volcanoes resulted to the formation of the Hawaiian Islands.
