I. Aims of the course

• The aim of this unit is to explore the wider position that some
organizations have in the global environment. Students will gain an
appreciation of the complexities of operating in a global environment,
enabling them insight in to an organization’s current or aspirational
global presence.
• On successful completion of this unit, students will understand the
wider global environment in which organizations operate. This
enables students to add value to an organization as they will be able
to apply their knowledge in such a way that they could advise senior
managers (in large and small organizations) on global matters that
they might not have otherwise considered.
II. Learning outcomes

By the end of this unit a student will be able to:


LO1 Analyze the key factors which drive globalization.
LO2 Determine the strategic complexities associated with
operating in a global environment.
LO3 Evaluate how operating in a global market influences
an organization's structure, culture and functions.
LO4 Develop a global strategy to support decision making
for a given organization.
III. Structure of the course

• This course will be delivered in 40 slots (60 hours of


study) consisting of:
– 24 slots for 12 theoretical lectures
– 16 slots for tutorial, overview and review sessions

IV. Assignments
To complete this course successfully, the students have to complete 2 individual
assignments:
 Assignment 1: Industry review – Competing in a global and complex world
This assignment satisfies the following learning outcomes:
LO1 Analyze the key factors which drive globalization.
LO2 Determine the strategic complexities associated with operating in a global
environment.
 Assignment 2: Business report on global impact and strategic direction
This assignment satisfies the following learning outcomes:
LO3 Evaluate how operating in a global market influences an organization's
structure, culture and functions.
LO4 Develop a global strategy to support decision making for a given organization.
