OVERHAULING OF SCREW PUMP

AIM:
To dismantle, overhaul and then assemble a screw pump.
TOOLS REQUIRED
1. Set of spanners 4. Screw driver
2. Ball peen Hammer 5. Hole punch
3. Bearing pullers 6. Allen key
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
1. To take the necessary permission from the chief engineer.
2. Isolate the power source of the pump motor and remove the fuses.
3. “DO NOT START” placard to be placed both locally and near breaker.
4. Supply wiring to motor to be disconnected.
5. Insulation resistance to be checked for motor connections.
6. Isolate the suction and delivery connections and drain the fluid .
PROCEDURE
1. The motor was switched off and terminal were
insulated.
2. The suction and discharge valve shut.
3. Open the pump purge cock , check the valve
holding , than open the drain valve and drain
completely fluid in the casing.
4. Make sure the casing drained completely then
disconnect the pump flange and remove the top
cover by unscrewing the bolts.
5. Remove the screw casing from the pump casing.
6. Remove the mechanical seal assembly from the
drive shaft.
7. Clean the casing and screw by diesel oil.
8. Inspect the screw and seal. if required replace the
new mechanical seal.
9. The suction and delivery valves were dismantled,
cleaned lapped and boxed back.
10. The valves were tested for leakage and found to in
good condition.
11. All the parts were assembled in reverse order.
12. Pump was tried out and found to be working satisfactorily.
RESULT
Thus the overhauling of screw pump was carried out.
