OVERHAULING OF RECEPROCATING PUMP

AIM:
To dismantle, overhaul and then assemble a horizontal reciprocating pump.
TOOLS REQUIRED
1. Set of spanners 4. Screw driver
2. Ball peen Hammer 5. Hole punch
3. Bearing pullers 6. Feeler gauge
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
1. To take the necessary permission from the chief engineer.
2. Isolate the power source of the pump motor and remove the fuses.
3. DO NOT START placard to be placed both locally and near breaker.
4. Supply wiring to motor to be disconnected.
5. Insulation resistance to be checked for motor connections.
6. Isolate the suction and delivery connections and drain water in the cylinder.
PROCEDURE
1. The flywheel was removed by removing the locking nut.
2. The suction and delivery flanges were disconnected.
3. The air vessel was disconnected.
4. The front casing was removed after loosening all nuts and bolts.
5. The piston was removed by unscrewing it from the cross head after loosening the T bolt.
6. The cross head was removed by pulling it from the smaller end of the loosening the rod after removing the
locking snap rings.
7. Crankcase oil was drained in a clean container.
8. Crankcase side doors were removed by removing the nuts.
9. Big end of the connecting was removed by pulling out the pin connecting to the crank shaft after removing
the locking circlips.
10. Crankshaft was removed. Bearing were removed using a bearing puller.
11. As the bearing were in good condition they were boxed back and the crank shaft was assembled back.
12. The suction and delivery valves were dismantled, cleaned lapped and boxed back.
13. The valves were tested for leakage and found to in good condition.
14. Piston leather bucket ring was renewed.
15. All the parts were assembled in reverse order.
16. Stuffing box was packed with new packing.
17. Pump was tried out and found to be working satisfactorily.
RESULT:
Thus the dismantle and assemble a horizontal reciprocating pump was carried out.
