Rock Metamorphic Rock Magma
Guide Questions:
1. Why does magma produce on the right side of the arrow? What is the temperature and pressure? Partial Melting.
The temperature is >1000°C and the pressure is >1800 MPa.
2. Why does the Diagenic process on the left side cannot produce a magma?
Because its temperature, as well as the pressure is not enough to melt the rocks in the Earth’s lithosphere.
3. Describe the condition that happened on the middle portion of the scale.
The process metamorphism occurs here because its temperature is between 200-1000 °C and the pressure is
between 300-1800 MPa. We can see here the process of metamorphic rock formation.
Activity 3
1. Plutonic Rock
2. Plutonic Rock
3. Volcanic Rock
4. Volcanic Rock
5. Neither
Activity 4
1. The olivine-peridotite have 40-50% silica content and 100% mineral while amphibole-rhyolite
have greater than 50% silica content and 0% of mineral.
2. It is based on their silicon oxide.
3. Because their content varies form mineral by volume and silica content.
4. There are 3 types. Potassium feldspar, Plagioclase feldspar and quartz
5. Peridotite is ultramafic, as the rock contains less than 45% silica. It is high in magnesium,
reflecting the high proportions of magnesium-rich olivine, with appreciable iron.
Reflection
Upon completing this module, I learned that all rocks have their own beauty. They may be
differing in sizes or color, but they all came from one thing.
