1. INTRODUCTION
The KDS-073 is a smart sensor for the measurement of rain. It uses the time
tested tipping bucket mechanism with the advantages of modern electronics. It
has provision for routing the reed closure as the output if desired. With
electronics it sits on the same bus as the other sensors and thus does not
require a separate input for the purpose. Electronics also imparts a higher level
of precision to its operation with optional calibration and rate compensation.
Hardware Features
High Precision Tipping Bucket
Hall-Effect Tip Detector
Internal Electronics for rate compensation
Stainless Steel Material
Measurement Process
The measuring frontend is based on a time tested precision tipping bucket. The
collector has a WMO recommended 324 cm2 area with a knife-edged calibrated
rim. The sensor uses an internal mathematics-cable electronics engine to
actually apply unit-wise calibration and rain rate compensation by measuring
the tipping rate to provide uniform accuracy and rain rate output under varying
conditions of rain.

4. OPERATIONAL DESCRIPTION
Apparatus: Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge Sensor-1nos., 1 Bucket with nozzle, 1 liter bottle, 1 Digital counter,
Digital Stop Watch.
Note:
Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge sensor have 0.5mm resolution(16.2ml/count)
Tipping Bucket Diameter 203.1mm ±0.2

Step:
Measure 1004.4ml water form borosil beaker and fill the same to bottle
Empty the both pendulum
Put the bottle in nozzle having different flow rate
Measure the tip at counter after full drain of water from the bottle

1004.4 0.29 125 62 59 -5% ±5%
Note:
1 count= 16.2ml
To Test Tipping Bucket for 62 counts we have to test it with 16.2 x 62 = 1004.4ml of water.
Flow Rate = (Ideal Count * Resolution of Sensor) / Measured time in Stopwatch mm/hr.
Example:
Resolution = 0.5mm
= 18.0 mm/hr.

5. SITTING
Mount the rain gage in a relatively level spot representative of the surrounding area. Ensure
that Base of rain is horizontal, at least 50 cm above the ground.
Place the rain gage away from objects that obstruct the wind. The distance should be 2- to
4-times the height of the obstruction

6. MAINTENANCE
It is recommended to clean the collector area on monthly bases to get the best
accuracy of sensor. The dust may overflow the internal pendulum and create an error.
