INTRODUCTION

My name is Erickson Mbudhi and I am going to tell you about the Auditing career option which
stems from the concept of Accounting. I am going to explain what auditing is, identify an
organisation which provides career opportunities for auditors and identify the qualifications needed
to do auditing and study it. I am also going to identify the characters someone needs to be successful
in accounting, why I would pursue this career and why accounting is a good subject to have in
school.

 1. Which characteristics are needed in order to be successful in the auditing career field and
why?
Good communication skills are needed to engage with clients ,interview clients make
presentations and write reports. Critical thinking is also needed to enable them to make
correct judgements in critical situations. Flexibility is needed in order to warrant continuous
learning, as an auditor you need to be able to update yourself with emerging issues ,trends,
technology and innovations ,as well as needing to study extra after university to obtain
certain certifications and qualifications needed alongside the degree.

2. Would you advise learners and students to take accounting in high school and university and
why?
Yes, because accounting does not limit you to only a handful of careers which broadens up
your career opportunities in the future .for example with an accounting degree you can find
careers such as bookkeeping, auditing, accounting ect.

3. From your experiences, do you think learners in high school should pursue a career in
auditing?

Yes, because just like the subject of accounting auditing can also lead into many other job
opportunities. Auditors can be described as diversified accountants as they can do the jobs
of accountants alongside auditing unlike accountants who cannot do the job of auditors.

1. What is accounting?
Accounting is the process of recording, cataloguing, analysing and reporting a company’s
financial records.

2. What is auditing?
Auditing describes the process of examination and verification of a company’s financial
records.

3. Which organisations offer auditing career opportunities?

Ernst & Young LTD Namibia is looking for a tax associate to examine financial records.

4. The qualifications required the career opportunity are:

. The requirements are:
*Relevant Bachelor of commerce degree or diploma in Accounting and/or Tax
*Minimum 3 years applicable experience

 *Strong familiarity of Namibian tax legislation and Namibia revenue agency systems and
reports.
*Literacy in Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Ms Word

5. Identify a tertiary educational institution and its requirements to complete/acquire the

qualification/degree needed for the career opportunity?
Namibian University of science and technology is offering a Bachelor of commerce in
Accounting degree and the requirements are as follows:

A minimum of 30 points in 5 subjects including a C symbol in Mathematics and a D symbol in

English at NSSC Ordinary level.

EVALUATION OF THE TOPIC

1. Identify at least two characteristics someone needs to be successful in an auditing career

and explain why.
Good communication skills are needed to engage with clients ,interview clients make
presentations and write reports. Critical thinking is also needed to enable them to make
correct judgements in critical situations.

2. State if you would consider pursuing an auditing career and justify your answer.

I would consider pursuing an auditing career because , an auditor is continuously learning,

evolving and developing new skills which can benefit them not just in the auditing career but
also in other passions. As an auditor I am not only limited to the auditing career field I could
also be a part time accountant or even chartered accountant and the skills I learned from
auditing can also help me in obtaining a successful accounting career if auditing does not
work out.

3. Explain two reasons why accounting is a good subject to have in school.

Accounting is a good subject to have in school because, accounting does not limit you to only
a handful of careers which broadens up your career opportunities in the future and
Accountants will always be in demand as long as businesses exist.
