Instruction for Candidates

1. There are six questions in all, out of which you have to attempt any four questions
2. All questions carry equal marks

1. When a robot is to be used for performing a particular job, what are the different
parameters that should be considered? Are there any specific rules and regulations for
hiring a robot for a job, if any specify them. What are the criteria for robotics
installation from the economic point of view?

2. When a sensor is interfaced with microcontroller, we need to use ADC. Which port of
Atmega16 microcontroller has ADC pins? What is the value of ADC prescalar when
the CPU frequency is 2 MHz? What is the function of different ADC registers?Explain
in detail.

3. What are the characteristics one should check while selecting a sensor? What are the
static characteristics a sensor should have? Hough transform is used while digitizing an
image. Describe it and at what stage of digitization process, it is used?

4. How does Zigbee, RS232 and USB communication differs? Out of these types, which
one is preferred for transferring audio and video data at a very high data rate?

5. Consider a counting system designed using AVR microcontroller having IR sensors

installed at the entrance. When the IR sensors interrupts in one direction the display
count on the seven segment starts increasing and when the interruption takes place in
the opposite direction, the counter display decreases. Design an algorithm showing
functioning of the system along with program code and interfacing diagram.

6. ADXL335 accelerometer is interfaced with AVR microcontroller to measure the co-

ordinate system and the measured co-ordinated are displayed on the 16 X 2 LCD. Write
program code showing proper functioning of the system along with proper labelled
circuit diagram.
