Occupational Health and safety:

The employers must make sure that they have sustainable arrangement in place. Like:
 Risk management.
 Operational controls.
 Incident reporting and investigation.
 Training and competency.
 Emergency preparedness and response.

Risk management:
Employers must prepare a risk management plan; this plan is putting a strategic plan for
identifying risk and acting. When identifying a risk a specific work needs to be done such as
checking the location, equipment, etc. a risk identification is technique is use to asses the
health and safety issues. A risk identification should contain this information.
a. Identify the hazards.
b. Identify who/what may be harmed.
c. Evaluate the risk.
d. Determine the severity.
e. Determine the likelihood.
f. Define the level of risk.
Once the risk is identified and it above the acceptable range then risk reduction needs to be
done to bring it back to acceptable range and it is done by using hierarchy of control to find
the effective way of bringing it back. The hierarchy of control includes:
a. Elimination of the hazard.
b. Substitution of the hazard.
c. Engineering controls.
d. Segregation.
e. administrative controls.
f. Personal Protective Equipment.

Operational controls:
Employers shall establish and specify the operating agreement where they are necessary for
the prevention of injury or ill-health to employees and equipment’s. operating agreement
should be specific to the employer and its activities and operational requirements.
Control of Hazardous Substances:
A hazardous is material the capacity to do damage or cause harm if they are inhaled, ingested,
or comes contact with the human skin. Hazardous substances have many forms – solid, gas,
liquid, fume, dust, vapor, mist, and smoke. These include individual chemical substances or
preparations such as paints, cleaning materials, metals, pesticides, and insecticides. This table
below summarizes the permitted hazardous level.

Environmental Controls:
RAKEZ as the relevant authority has adopted all the requirements of Federal Law No 24 of
1999 For the Protection and Development of the Environment and all the subsequent
Executive Orders. Employers therein must maintain compliance with all the above
requirements. RAKEZ HS&E Department will monitor employers to ensure compliance is
maintained and where it is not, then enforcement action may be taken. All industrial
employers shall obtain an environmental licence from EPDA on an annual basis.
