 JAOT only joined WFOT in 1970.
 1992: OT graduate program opened in Hiroshima University.
 Working area: hospital (general, rehabilitation, psychiatry), welfare
institution, nursing home, community center, and day care, special needs
schole, and after school day care, employment support center, local
government, …

Natural disaster and OT

 Natural disaster in Japan: gempa, tsunami, typhoon, flooding, landslide,


heavy snow, volcano, nuclear power accident, covid19 pandemic
 Disaster support from OT area: management and support activities for
people suffering from natural disaster.
 Volunteer activites:
Arrangement and adjustment of living environment in evacuation shelters
Formation of daily rhythms and development of activities (support time
management, etc)
Individual support for older adults and people with disabilities in
evacuation shelters, home, and provisional housing.
Individual support for evacuees with mental disorders in evacuation
shelters, home, and provisional housing (help them adjust, etc)
Support for disaster-affected disabled children (bc sometimes the
adults/parents are too busy with recovering)
