ABSTRACT

The increase adoption of Internet among young users in Marikina provides high prospect for online

seller. Young users aged between 18 and 25 years old are important to online sellers because they

are actively involved in online purchasing and this group of online buyers is expected to dominate

future online market. Therefore, examining online sellers' website quality and online buyers'

purchase intention is crucial. Based on the Theory of planned behavior (TPB), a conceptual model

of online sellers' website quality and purchase intention of online buyers was developed. Using

online questionnaire and convenience sampling procedure which is simple random technique, the

primary data obtained starting from the teenagers who had online business aged between 18 to 25

years old. It was discovered that website design, website reliability/fulfillment, website security,

privacy & trust, and website customer service positively and significantly influence intention of

online sellers and buyers to continuously purchase via online channels. This study concludes that

online sellers' website quality is important in predicting online buyers' purchase intention.

Recommendation and implication of this study were discussed focusing on how online sellers

should improve their website quality to stay competitive in online business.

1.0 INTRODUCTION

The COVID-19 outbreak is a sharp reminder that pandemics, like other rarely occurring

catastrophes, have happened in the past and will continue to happen in the future. This not only

has consequences for the economy; all of society is affected, which has led to dramatic changes in

how businesses act and consumers behave. For a period after a pandemic, we tend to become less

interested in investing and more interested in saving our capital, resulting in reduced economic

growth. Given the current situation, in which saving capital means negative returns, it is not at all

certain that we will be as conservative as we have been in the past. While some businesses are

struggling, some businesses are thriving. This is true for a number of Internet-based businesses,

such as those related to online entertainment, food delivery, online shopping, online education,

and solutions for remote work.

Social media and virtual meetings, domestically and across the globe, have become the “new

normal” as people strive to keep normalcy in their lives amid pandemic restrictions. Here in the

Philippines, Digital 2020 April Statshot report by Hootsuite and We Are Social revealed that 64%

of Filipino internet users are spending more time on social media, with 23% indicating an increased

activity in their online shopping activity. With consumers resorting more to online shopping amid

pandemic restrictions, entrepreneurs have embraced the digital phenomenon for online shopping

even more. E-commerce websites such as Lazada and Shopee are at the forefront of these online

shopping platforms with expected surges in sales revenues in millions of pesos. Technology has

already transformed online business transactions into an infinite marketplace where conducting

business has become more convenient and efficient for both vendors and vendees.

The COVID-19 pandemic has made this marketplace a more obvious necessity. With this surge

in online sales and business activity, the government looks to remind online sellers of their tax

obligations, with the Bureau of Internal Revenue’s (BIR) issuance of Revenue Memorandum

Circular (RMC) No. 60-2020 entitled “Obligations of Persons Conducting Business Transactions

Through any Forms of Electronic Media and Notice to Unregistered Businesses.” The Circular

basically mandates all business owners who a

re engaged in an online business platform in any form, whether digital or electronic, to register

their businesses with the BIR and pay taxes on their sales. Under this RMC, online business entities

and constituents are encouraged to register their businesses no later than July 31, 2020 to avoid

penalties for late registration. In addition, they are encouraged to voluntarily declare their past

transactions, and pay the taxes due thereon, without corresponding penalties if the declaration is

done no later than July 31, 2020

This research is being written to help those who are having an online business for them to Expand

marketplace. We conduct this study to be beneficial for those who are having an online business.

CHAPTER 2

2.0 REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

According to Arreola Renz Homer S. (2020), here in the Philippines there are 64% of Filipino are

spending their time in using social media, while 23% of Filipino are shopping online. Online

shopping like Lazada and Shoppee became more popular in this pandemic because the consumers

shop online for safety and because of the pandemic restrictions. By this, these online shopping

platforms already have a sales revenue in millions of pesos. The pandemic has caused many

business like restaurants, they decided to move towards delivery services to serve their target

market. To ensure the quality of the products, consumers needs a proper research and development

even in the new normal. According to PwC Philippines (2020). 48% feel threatened by COVID-

19, the founders identified financial impact and effects on operations. To manage the negative

impact of pandemic in business, they started to reduce the operations and they offer something

affordable and new to the people. During this period, we have seen the entry of new players such

as on-demand delivery service providers, market startups offering vegetables and meat, and more.

Culpin Ben (2020) said that 36% of sellers predict that their sales will decrease because of the

supply chain issues, product shortages and shipping delays.

According to President University of Indonesia (2020), a lot of companies have changed their

business culture due to COVID-19. A lot of entrepreneur was unprepared for this upcoming disease

and now they are facing some problems such as time management, internet connectivity and many

more. The arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic has made changes to work styles that have become

work culture indirectly; the use of technology and infrastructure tools requires a lot of costs and

33
Our Lady of Fatima University AC
The positive and negative impact of internet in today's businesses in Barangay Sta. Elena during
the Corona Virus 2019 Pandemic

also time adaptation, which drains the effectiveness and efficiency of work productivity. Retailers

use social networking as their marketing strategy special in our particular situation that a lot of us

are focusing on our technologies such as laptop, cellphone and other devices. Even though cross-

cultural differences may exist and have an impact on the way people use social networking, at the

end of the day it is all about being connected to each other and sharing information. These actions

are leaded by Information Technology and they created also some innovative way where people

can communicate and interact.

Many internet-based services was coming and going with the trend and that is new normal due to

COVID-19. Based on a valence framework and trust transfer theory that developed by some

researchers is a trust-based customer decision-making model of the non-independent, third-party

mobile payment services context which means they have some theories that may tell us why some

of the consumers don’t have some trust in online transaction and by the help of SEM analysis that

they’ve use, it indicates that trust indeed had a substantial impact on the cross-environment

relationship and, further, that trust in combination with the positive and negative valence

determinants directly and indirectly influenced behavioral intention.

According to Quarterman J. S., Mitchell S. C., & Longman A.W. (1993), On July 1993, the largest

computer network in the world is internet and it comprise of more than 13,000 networks and a

million machines. It has been developing around 100% every year throughout the previous five

years. The TCP/IP conventions are not fitting and play but still the utilization in the Internet are

entirely able and the knowledge of the Engineers wasn’t able to expand quickly as the Internet’s

speed. There is no Internet, Inc. to call for administration like the old phone restraining

infrastructure and it is an overall decentralized disseminated helpful interconnection of various

fundamental innovations and associations with no general objectives, the board, or evaluating

structure. Like the current phone framework, there are numerous providers of Internet network and

administrations, some contending, some integral. Similarly as the nearby phone organization for

the most part doesn't do the wiring inside your home, your Internet availability supplier won't set

up the climate inside your neighborhood have machine or your neighborhood organization. This

book discloses to you how to do it without anyone's help.

end up being practical electronic other options, yet amazingly beneficial of the customary method

CHAPTER 3

3.0 RESEARCH METHOD

The research methodology involves the gathering of data through online interviews and reports

which could provide necessary information to further analysis and understand the topic being

studied. This chapter presents and describes the research design, data-gathering instruments and

data analysis procedure. Quantitative methods emphasize quantitative measurements and

numerical, numerical analysis of data obtained by means of surveys, questionnaires and surveys

or by using computational techniques to manipulate post survey information.

3.1 RESEARCH DESIGN

According to Will G. Hopkins (2008), In quantitative research, the goal is to

evaluate the relationship between one thing an independent variable and another a dependent

variable or an outcome variable in a population. Quantitative research designs are either

descriptive subjects usually measured once or experimental subjects measured both before and

After treatment. A descriptive study only defines relations between variables. The experiment has

defined cause and effect.

3.2 RESEARCH LOCALE

The study was conducted on one of the barangays in Marikina. This place was

selected for knowing the efficiency of the said sellers. The responded will be interviewed in a

comfortable place that the respondent will choose. This respondent will be interviewed via survey

in direct message in any Social media. The researchers choose the plea of implementation because

it will give the researchers the needed information for people. The study will be conducted in the

1st semester of the academic year 2020-2021.

3.3 KEY INFORMANT SAMPLING

The researchers used simple random sampling in which a subset of individuals

chosen from a larger set. The researchers chose an area in the City of Marikina where the one of

the well-maintained markets in Metro Manila is the Marikina Public Market that is located at the

heart of Barangay Sta. Elena. The researchers listed all the barangays in Marikina and also the

numbers of possible respondents that we are going to draw and the results will be the chosen

respondents.

3.4 RESEARCH ETHICS

The researchers established principles that focus on the welfare of the participants

in the whole process of the research study. Health care raises issues concerning the allocation of

scarce resources. Maximising total benefits produced by scarce resources, treating equivalent cases

equally, promoting and rewarding instrumental value (benefit to others) and giving priority to the

worst of algorithms have been adopted to maximize use of resources in the event they become

scarce.

3.5 RESEARCH INSTRUMENT

The data gathering instrument that the researchers used was the survey

questionnaire- checklist. The questionnaires were made to have a strong and solid research. The

survey is the most commonly used quantitative research technique. In a quantitative survey, you

may use short answers or multiple choice questions, multiple-choice answers, paragraphs, check

boxes, linear scale. As you can see there are a number of question formats that can be suited to

your research needs. Here are some examples of subjective, multiple-choice, scaling order, ranking

scale.

3.6 DATA COLLECTION

Traditionally, to collect the data we‘re using online methods because of the

pandemic. Even the most used are paper-based methods. We used an open-ended question that

allows the respondents to express their own thoughts, ideas, & opinions. Through this method, the

researchers followed a step by step process of data collection before and after gathering results;

first, is to make a clear data collection aim and do the questions based on the study. Second, is to

recognize the main objective of the research. And should find the main conclusion to analyze and

find the best solution. Then, plan the approach that will be done during the data collection

procedure, discuss who will be surveyed, source of data & duration of data. Third, start to conduct

a survey with the schedule. Fourth, analyze the data that is in the survey. Understanding of data

with the use of statistical analysis. Last but not the least, is to act as an elucidate results from the

interpretation of data.
