☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.
☒ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.
☐ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing
it via an outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation:
The teacher will begin by activating background knowledge about pollution and giving examples of
it. Then ask for students to ask someone at home to share an example of pollution. Students will
then respond by creating a podcast giving an example of pollution in our environment, making it one
minute to a minute and a half long. In their podcast, they must first write a transcript or paragraph

about what they plan to say. Once they record themselves and publish it, we can go through them as
a class. I will conclude the lesson by sharing some of the best examples and providing a YouTube
video of pollution in our ecosystem. This will make them think on our next activity to help clean up
our environment.
Managing student learning:
Students will be given laptops or tablets, which will make them go from a passive to active social
learner. They are now taking in the information by hearing or reading along with the transcript and
figuring out how to elaborate on their answer. They can begin getting creative by adding their own
flare to their podcast. I will allow the students five to seven minutes to either do their own research
about the topic and record their audio.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection:
This activity supports al learners for it uses the three principles of UDL, engagement by providing
background knowledge of the topic and relating it to their life. Representation in the different use of
accessibility shown in the activity, whether that be audial or visual. Lastly, having the students
express themselves through their own creation of a podcast and see where their ideas get them.
Reflection:
These activities will give another reason for the inventive minds of the students to blossom. They can
use their voice to express choice and explain their thinking. My favorite part of the lesson will be
going over everyone’s response and seeing what they made to share amongst my colleagues.
Knowing each child is special in some way and understand how they process and deliver that
information.
