The Last City Sci Standing 2023

1. The Last City Sci Standing is an activity that aims to recognize the different
skills and talents of City Sci students. The title is given to the class with
the highest points earned from all the activities during the 33rd Founding
Anniversary Celebration of the school. This year’s contest includes the
Traditional and Digital Poster Making, Battle of the Brains- Quiz Bee,
Spelling Bee, Extemporaneous Speech, and Battle of Talents.

2. All Classes must submit their registration form on or before March 1,

2023. Incomplete or late registration is a ground for disqualification.

3. There shall be no duplication of participants in different contests.

4. The following scores will be given for each contest:

5. Guidelines per contest are as follow:

A. Traditional and Digital Poster-Making Contest

1. Each section shall have an entry for the contest where all sections must
have a representative in the team.
2. Each team must be composed of three (3) members who are currently
enrolled in the school.
3. The concept of the art must be anchored to the theme of the founding
anniversary, “City Sci MATATAG: 33 Years of Sustaining Holistic
Excellence”.
4. The team participants of each section must provide all their materials. For
the traditional, they will use a ½ illustration board while for digital, any
software and gadget of choice may be used and the poster shall have 5 x
7 dimensions (300 pixels).
5. The organizer deserves the right not to allow participants who will arrive
late during the actual event. Any form of plagiarism will lead to
disqualification.
6. Each team will have an assigned seat. It will be the team’s discretion to
prepare and use a white paint as a base color prior to the duration of the
contest.
7. All participating teams will make their artwork in the identified venue
inside the campus. This may be done from March 6-8, 2023 provided that
there will be no disruption of classes.
8. The art medium in the traditional category includes oil pastel, markers
and pencils only. Straight edges (e.g., rulers, triangles) and compasses are
not allowed.
9. Coaching by any person other than the officially registered contestants is
not allowed. This is a valid ground for disqualification.
10. All art pieces submitted will be considered a property of PPCNSHS.
However, the artists are not deprived of due recognition for the art works.
11. The official judging of the mural paintings will be in the morning of
the 9th day of March 2023. All art pieces are considered submitted once
the Committee declares that the contest has finished. The Panel of Judges
will inspect all the entries submitted for scoring. The five teams with the
highest scores will receive the corresponding awards and points.
12. Clarifications or concerns should be directed and raised in formal
letter addressed to the organizers prior to the day of the competition.

13. The criteria for judging will be as follows:

CREATIVITY AND ORIGINALITY 30 %

QUALITY OF ART PIECE 30 %
Accuracy of the drawing, control of the medium,
quality of the colors and balance between colors
and design.
CLARITY OF THEME 20 %
How well they represent the theme and whether the
theme is understood by others.
PRESENTATION 20 %
The presentation should be in accordance with the
style of the art piece and the theme of the
competition
B. Battle of the Brains – Quiz Bee and Spelling Bee

1. Each class shall send only 1 team of students for spelling bee and quiz
bee. Each team must be composed of three (3) students for each contest.

2. The quiz bee questions fall under six (6) different categories: Mathematics,
Science, Social Science, General Information, City Sci Trivia, and Palawan
Trivia. While the words for spelling bee fall under two (2) categories:
English and Filipino.

3. The battle of the brains consists of two (2) stages:

a. The knockout stage features a multiple-choices, wherein each team

will be given a 50-item questionnaire which must be answered
within 1 hour. Spelling bee knockout stage features a paper and pen
test, wherein the moderator will give 35 items. The upper half of the
teams based on their total score in both contests will proceed to the
final stage.

b. The final stage features show-me boards where the teams will write
their answers and raise up after each question or words in both
contests. These will have 3 rounds: easy, average, and difficult. Only
the top five (5) highest scoring teams will be recognized. In the event
where the top five teams cannot be determined due to multiple
teams having the same number of points, a clincher shall be
provided to fill in the remaining slot(s). A sudden death rule shall
apply: in the case of a two-team tie, the first team to answer a
question correctly will be the team that will be declared as winner.

c. Protests may only be raised by contestants (through raising their

hand and waiting for the quizmaster’s/moderator’s
acknowledgement) and shall be done before the start of the next
question. Teacher-Coaches may only assist (i.e. provide further
substantiation of the contestant’s claim through valid information
references) once the contestant’s protest has been acknowledged.
The decision of the quiz and spelling bee’s panel of judges shall be
deemed final.

d. In case of a substitution, the coach must inform the organizers

beforehand. Substitution is only permitted if a participant is unable
to attend due to illness or an emergency. Registered members of
different teams from the same school are not allowed to be
substitutes for each other.

e. Any form of cheating will lead to immediate disqualification.

C. Extemporaneous Speech

1. Each class shall have 1 representative for the contest. A draw lots will be
done to determine the order of the participants.
2. The organizer shall give a list of possible topics related to the theme and
present issues a day prior to the start of the competition.
3. The contestants shall be given three (3) minutes to prepare and three (3)
minutes to deliver.
• The contestants are not allowed to have any gadget.
• A timer accessible to the contestant, judges and audience shall be
provided.
• The contest master is accountable to the sanctification of the
competition.
• There will be a 1-point deduction for every 30-second overtime from the
respective judges’ total score before determining the rank of the
contestants.
• The English language will be the medium of communication. The style
of the delivery shall be conversational, oratorical or a combination of
both. Dramatic style is considered disqualified.
4. The contestant should wear his/her school uniform or a business attire.
5. Use of sound effects, personal microphones and props is prohibited.
6. After the deliberation of the members of the board of judges, the judges’
decision is final.

D. Battle of Talents
1. Each class shall have 1 team entry for the contest with a minimum of 5
members.
2. There shall be two phases- the audition stage and the final stage. Only the
upper half of the participating teams shall proceed to the final stage. The
elimination round will use the same criteria with the final round.
3. Each team will showcase a combination of at least three (3) extraordinary
talents and skills of students such as dancing, singing, instrument playing,
magic tricks, acting, etc.
4. Each team is allowed to showcase their talent in 3-4 minutes. There will be a
1-point deduction for every 30-second overtime from the respective judges’ total
score before determining the rank of the contestants.
5. The team may use their creative concept and choice of music, proper attire,
and props. No malicious and/or hazardous acts or props will be allowed.
6. The top 5 teams with the highest scores from the judges will be declared as
winners and will be given due recognition.
7. Criteria for Judging:
• Originality (Choreography, Composition, Creativity - 25 %
and Originality, Style)
• Overall Performance (Skills and Technique, Precision, Timing - 50 %
and Coordination, Showmanship, Mastery)
• Stage Presence (Production Design, Costume, Props, Music) - 25 %
