Career Exploration

Lesson Plan for Grade 9, Personal Development and Career Planning

OVERVIEW & PURPOSE

This lesson is focused on career exploration, with an emphasis on using digital technology to
research and identify potential career paths. Students will learn about different online tools and
resources that can help them explore careers and make informed decisions about their future.
They will also develop their global collaboration skills by learning about career opportunities
and trends in different countries and cultures.

OBJECTIVES
1. Students will research and explore various career paths.
2. Students will collaborate with peers to share information and insights about different
careers.
3. Students will analyze how different careers can contribute to local and global
communities.
4. Students will reflect on their personal values and how they align with different career
paths

MATERIALS NEEDED

1. Computers or tablets
2. Internet access
3. Research resources (e.g. career websites,job search engines, online job board,
professional networking sites, etc.)
4. Presentation software (e.g. Google Slides, PowerPoint)

PROCEDURE

1. Introduction (5 minutes)

The teacher will introduce the lesson by explaining the importance of career exploration
and how it can help students identify their interests, skills, and career goals. The teacher
can use examples of successful individuals who followed their passion and turned it into
a career.

2. Career Exploration Activity (15 minutes)

Students will use their computers or tablets to research careers of interest. They can use
online resources such as career websites, job search engines, and professional networking
sites to gather information about different careers. They will identify careers that they are
interested in and take notes about the required skills, education, and experience for those
careers.

3. Collaboration Activity (15 minutes)

Students will be assigned into breakout room and work together to create a presentation
about their chosen careers. They will use presentation tools like Google Slides,
PowerPoint, or Prezi to create their presentations. Each team member will be responsible
for researching and presenting information about a specific aspect of the career (e.g. job
duties, salary, required skills, education, etc.). They will collaborate with each other to
ensure that their presentation is cohesive and informative.

4. Presentation (15 minutes)

Each group will do a short presentation (3-4 slides) to briefly explain their chosen careers

and provide information about the required skills, education, and experience.
