ABSTRACT
iv

K-12 is the recently adopted curriculum being used in our country. Hence, this

study is conducted to attempt to determine the perception of Grade 7 English

Teachers from Pasig City. Their perceptions could be used as a springboard to

make necessary improvements in the curriculum. And in so doing, be able to

make recommendations to further enhance the said curriculum.

To determine the perception of the 32 Grade 7 English teachers who served

as the respondents, the researchers made a survey form. Gathered data were

tallied, tabulated and analyzed using percentage and mean. Descriptive Method

was utilized to further describe the result.

From the survey conducted, majority of the respondents perceived that the K-

12 will solve the annual growing number of out of school youth, will address low

achievement scores in academic performances of elementary and high school

students, will open the doors for more jobs for the youth even without a college

diploma and will make Filipino graduates be automatically recognized as

professional abroad.

In terms of the content of the curriculum, the respondents perceived that the

curricular design is very good which could be attributed to the fact that K to12

Curriculum follows the spiral approach, while in terms of effectiveness, majority

of the respondents perceived the Grade 7 English Curriculum as very good in the

three different areas namely: Content Coverage, Student Learning and Teaching

Methods. Thus, based on the survey, the teaching methods to be used in Grade

7 curriculum were perceived to be the contributing factor to its effectiveness.

v

The study recommends that the Department of Education assure that the K-

12 program will solve the annual growing number of out of school youth.

Teachers as well as the school administrators should continually evaluate

themselves, their learners and the curriculum in order to monitor the realization of

the curriculum’s goals and objectives.

Lastly, students who wish to conduct other studies similar to this may include

other learning areas, and evaluation of the curriculum, rather than just

perceptions of teachers in the field.
