REACTION PAPER

The Count of Monte Cristo

Some of the scenes really grab my attention. The first occurred when
Edmond Dantes was spanked by the police while being held in custody.
Dantes lacks the ability to read and write. Because of this, he was unable to
read the letter's contents, which revealed a plot to overthrow the government.
I enjoyed this moment because it made me understand how important
education is. Perhaps Dantes would recognize that he would be betrayed if he
were intelligent. The majority of people who experience unfairness in our
society today are uneducated.

The second is when Dantes carved the words "God will give me
justice" into the prison's wall. This line stuck in my mind as I watched the
movie "The Count of Monte Cristo," but after what had happened, he lost faith
in God because he believed that God was never present when he needed
help or justice. I came to the conclusion that God always provides justice to
those who have suffered injustice. Like Dantes, who received justice despite
having lost trust in God.

The third scene that I like is when Dantes first meets Faria. He is
overjoyed because he hasn’t seen another person, other than the guard, for
years. Faria reaches Dantes by means of a tunnel that took him years to dig
with his tools. Faria hid all these tools behind two separate rocks in his cell. All
of these things show how smart Faria really was. Dantes’s intelligence is what
helps him make his transformation. I really like these scenes because when
Dantes meets Faria, another innocent prisoner, he teaches Dantes how to
read, write, and fence, where he becomes wise.
