Influences of mobile phones: pros and cons

Nowadays, most people have mobile phones, as a result, the use of this mobile device has also
increased. Although its use has helped to improve communication, many experts consider that
its excessive use has more negative effects than positive.

While you are walking down the street, it is very common to see people checking messages,
chatting, taking photos or just surfing the internet. However, many are not aware to spend a
lot of time watching de cell phone screen affects our health.

For example, most people usually use their cell phones before going to sleep. According to
many studies, the white light that is produced by cell phone inhibits the production of
melatonin and causes insomnia; in addition, sleep less affects the concentration and, can even
produce headaches and overweight.

Even though, our cell phones can become very useful for our organization, the constant sound
of calls, messages, reminders and vibrations can increase our stress levels. David Greenfield,
Professor of Clinical Psychiatry, said, "Your cortisol levels are elevated when your cell phone is
near, or when hear it or even think you hear it." (In my experience, this is very true, when I
had just bought my new cell phone, I spent too much time with my cell phone and, many times
I thought I had heard a message, but at the end everything was in my mind).

In contrast, despite the negative aspects there are, we can also highlight some positive
aspects, are very useful when you are in emergency situations and you have to get help; also
allows direct access to services, making it easy to search for information; and finally
communication, is much easier, faster and cheaper than making long distance calls in a
conventional way

In my opinion, the cell phone was created for a good purpose as shortening distances and
times when we communicate, however the excessive use we give it not only affects our health
but also our relationships with others. Moreover, I think it’s important to be aware of the
negative effects it can have on us.
