LANGUAJE
HISTORY
The history of the Japanese language dates back more than 2,000
years, believed to have originated in the Kyushu region of Japan.
In the 3rd century AD, contact with China and Korea had a great
influence on the Japanese language, resulting in the adoption of the
Chinese script and the incorporation of many borrowings of Chinese
and Korean origin.
In the 9th century AD, Japanese began to develop its own syllabic
script, known as hiragana and katakana.
In the 20th century, Japanese experienced greater influence from
Western languages, especially English, and there was an expansion
in the amount of foreign borrowings in Japanese vocabulary.
