A Brief Lesson Plan in Grade 9 Science

I. Learning Objectives
At the end of the 60 minutes period, the students will be able to:
1. explain what is VSEPR Theory;
2. construct the molecular geometry of different compound; and
3. learn that molecular geometry of substance is related to their physical and chemical
properties

II. Topic: Molecular Geometry: VSEPR Theory

III. Materials: DLP and LT

IV. Procedures
A. PREPARATORY ACTIVITIES
Prayer
Greeting
Checking of Attendance
Checking of Assignment
Review of the Past Lesson
B. LESSON PROPER
1. Motivation
 Ask the students why different matters have different shape and how is this related to
their properties. Ex. Diamond
 Show students videos
2. Discussion
 Introduce to the students what is VSEPR Theory
 Recall the Lewis Dot Formula
 Explain to them how many bond an atom can have depend on how many valence
electrons it has
 Begin by showing them the Periodic Table and identify how many bond does atoms in 2nd
period, Group A can have.
 Show on PT different molecules with different molecular geometry
 Explain how knowing the number and type of chemical bonds in a molecule enables one
to predict the geometry of the molecule
 Linear
 Trigonal planar
 V-Shaped
 Tetrahedral
 Trigonal pyramidal
 V Shaped
 Trigonal bipyramid Family (Seesaw, V-shaped, Linear)
 Octahedral family (Square pyramidal, Square planar)

IV. LEARNING EVALUATION

Identify the molecular geometry of the following compound:
1. HCN
2. CH2O
3.PF3
4. BF3
5. BrF5

V. ASSIGNMENT
