McMohan Line
McMahon Line
A resolution has been introduced in the United States Senate seeking to
recognise the McMahon Line as the international boundary.

👉 About
● McMahon Line defines a clear boundary line
between India and China.
● It is 890 km long.
● It specifically represents the boundary
between Arunachal Pradesh and Tibet, from
Bhutan in the west to Myanmar in the east.
McMahon Line
◎ This line was determined by Sir Henry McMahon, the then Foreign Secretary in
the Government of British India.
◎ The McMahon line was the result of the Shimla Treaty of 1914 which took place
between India under British Raj and Tibet.
◎ In 1950, China fully occupied Tibet. Now China neither approved nor accepted the
McMahon Line.

Tamil Nadu's wait continues for Pennaiyar river Inter-State River Water
Disputes Tribunal as the three-month deadline fixed by the Supreme Court
had expired and now the State is waiting for Centre’s next course of action.

👉 About
● It is also known as South Pennar River, Dakshina
Pinakini or Ponnaiyar River.
● Bangalore, Hosur, Tiruvannamalai, and Cuddalore
are the important cities on the banks of this river.
● It covers a large area in the state of Tamil Nadu
besides the areas covered in the states of
Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

◎ Source ➔ Nandi Hills in the Chikkaballapura
district of Karnataka and flows through
Tamil Nadu before emptying into the Bay of
Bengal.
◎ The Penniyar Basin is bounded on the North-
West and South by various ranges of the
Eastern Ghats like the Velikonda Range, the
Nagari hills, the Javadi hills, the Shevaroy
hills, the Chitteri hills and the Kalrayan hills.

Doha Political Declaration
The Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries
(LDC5) concluded with adoption of the ‘Doha Political Declaration’ by the
world leaders.

Doha Political Declaration
◎ Focus of Declaration ➔ implementing the Doha Programme of Action (DPoA) —
the 10-year plan to put the world’s 46 most vulnerable countries back on track to
achieving the UN-mandated Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
◎ It was adopted a year after the text of DPoA for the Decade (2022-2031) was
agreed upon during the first part of the LDC5 conference on March 17, 2022 in
New York.
◎ DPoA (2022-2031) consisted of Six Key Focus Areas ➔
○ 1) Leveraging the potential of science and technology to fight against
multidimensional vulnerabilities and to achieve the SDGs.
○ 2) Eradicating Poverty
○ 3) Addressing Climate Change
○ 4) Environmental Degradation

○ 5) Recovering from Covid-19
○ 6) Building resilience against future shocks for risk-informed sustainable
development.

👉 About Least Developed Countries


◎ The least developed countries (LDCs) are a group of countries identified by the
United Nations that exhibit the lowest indicators of socioeconomic development.
◎ The concept of LDCs originated in the late 1960s and the first group of LDCs was
listed by the UN on 18 November 1971.
◎ Currently, there are 46 countries on the United Nations' list of LDCs.
◎ The list of LDCs is reviewed every three years by the Committee for Development
Policy (CDP), a group of independent experts that report to the Economic and
Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations.
Bumchu festival
Bumchu, the Tashiding holy water vase ritual, is a unique and important
occasion that draws travellers from all over the world.

👉 About
● Bumchu Festival is one of the biggest Buddhist
Festival of Sikkim.
● Sometimes it is also termed as the ‘kumbh mela’ of
Sikkim.
● The Tashiding Monastery in Sikkim hosts the annual
Bumchu Festival every year.
Bumchu festival
◎ It is celebrated on the 15th day of the first month of the Tibetan calendar
corresponding to the month of February/March.
◎ Bhum means a pot or vase and Chu means water, hence, "pot of sacred water” in
Tibetan.
◎ The divine vase (associated with the memory of Padmasambhava or Guru
Rinpoche) is filled with water from the Rathong River and kept in the monastery.
◎ It is brought out for public viewing during the festival and its contents checked by
the lamas.
◎ It is believed that the quality and the quantity of the stored water is an indication
how Sikkim will fare in the following year.
Trade Infrastructure for Export Scheme (TIES)
The Department of Commerce is implementing the Trade Infrastructure for
Export Scheme (TIES) since 2017-18.

👉 About
● Under the scheme, the Centre will provide funds for
setting up or up-grading export infrastructure in
States/UTs.
● Aim ➔ To assist Central and State Government
agencies in creating appropriate infrastructure for
the growth of exports.
● Launched by ➔ Ministry of Commerce and Industry
Trade Infrastructure for Export Scheme (TIES)

◎ Need ➔ The Centre has delinked Assistance to States for Development of


Export Infrastructure and Allied Activities (ASIDE) Scheme in 2015. Ever since
that, the State Governments had been requesting the support of the Centre in
the creation of export infrastructure.
◎ Scope ➔ The scheme can be availed by States through their implementing
agencies, for infrastructure projects with significant export linkages. These
include Border Haats, Land customs stations, quality testing and certification
labs, cold chains, trade promotion centres, etc.
◎ Funding pattern ➔ Under the scheme, financial assistance in the form of grants-
in-aid is provided to Central/State Government owned agencies (or their Joint
Ventures with major stake-holding by them).

◎ Performance ➔ Financial assistance for a total of 40 export infrastructure
