The Legend of Tondano Lake

In ancient times in the area, Tondano, North Sulawesi, stands towering


mountanins. On the slopes of the mountain there are 2 areas / regions, the north
and south. Southern region dominated by a Tonaas (Ruler) who has a son named
Maharimbow. While ruling the northern region also has a child named
Maharimbow. Ruling the north shrouded anxiety at the thought of the heir to the
throne later, because woman.
To overcome this, he made an idea that feels weird. He asked her to dress and
behaved like a man and asked her not to marry for life “Maharimbow, from now
on you have to dress and behaved like a man and don’t marry for rest of your
life”. North Tonaas request was approved and swore in a traditional ceremony
before Opo Empung (Elders). If the oath was violated, there would be a
catastrophic havoc the ground. Meanwhile, apparently Tonaas southern region
had a similar problem. Maharimbow promes asked to not marry during her
father’s lifetime “I promise to this region that I will not marry during my father
lifetime”. On one day of the second heir to the throne met in the border area.
Maharimbow felt that the people who saw it, thought dressed in a knight but
radiates softness of a woman. He became curious and wanted to know who threw

became a lake that we know today as the lake Tondano.
