Water Environment

- It is perhaps the most important component of any ecosystem. All living organisms need water
in order to grow and survive.

Importance of Water in the Environment

- The Water Cycle

Evaporation

- The process of turning liquid into vapor

Condensation

- Water that collects as droplets on a cold surface when humid air is in contact with it.

Precipitation

- The action or process of precipitating a substance from a solution.

Transpiration

- Process where plants absorb water through the roots and then give off water vapor through
pores in their leave.

Water Pollution

-  contamination of water sources by substances that make the water unusable for
drinking, cooking, cleaning, swimming, and other activities.

Main Types of Water Pollution

Point Source Pollution

- If pollution comes from a single location such as a discharge pipe attached to a factory.

Nonpoint Source Pollution

- It comes from oil, pet waste, pesticide, herbicide, fertilizer, road salt, bacteria,
sediment, and any other contaminant that naturally ends up on the ground or
from human activity.

How Do We Know When Water is Polluted?

- If the chemicals are dangerous or the concentrations are too great, we can know if the water is
polluted.

How Can We Stop Water Pollution?

Education

- It makes people care about the water environment.


- It can reduce vulnerability to climate change.
Law

- The Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004 (RA. 9275) aims to protect the country's water bodies
from pollution from land-based sources.
